​​​​​​In the past he's favoured a 3-4-3 formation...hard to see how we can do that currently with only 3 senior CBs, one of whom is injured. He's also played wingers (Solly March as an example) in the wing back roles.

Typically when a 3-4-3 gets announced on a match day the manager is immediately described as being too negative, too cautious etc. I guess it depends on the composition of the 4.

He's given young players chances...hopefully that continues at West Ham.

I think Chelsea were just too big to soon for him at the time. Been a strange few years there with so many players and a lot of egos. Hopefully the break will have done him some good by way or assessing where it went wrong for him. 

Seems the dwarf wanted Allegri from what I'm hearing but Sullivan hasn't got it right with his foreign managers. Grant, Pellegrini and Lop, I don't consider Slav fully fledged foreign as he at least had some good knowledge of the Club. So feeling quite hopeful about Potter but as Mad Dog says it's the hope that kills you.

Graham Potter has sort of landed in the same position he was in at Chelsea with a dysfunctional squad that has no tactical identity.
I just hope that he can get a coherent tune out of them.

Is that going to be the ready made excuse if he fails again? It won't wash I'm afraid, just as it didn't at Chelsea.

I’m working my way through that podcast with him. Some things to really like. Seems a very erudite and intelligent bloke. Struck me when he talked briefly about his Chelsea losing to Brighton and he says ‘i got it tactically wrong’ firstly it’s good he recognised that and secondly it suggests at least he’s flexible in thinking about that. 

but then again there is a discussion about his it’s important to have a good chairman. So maybe scrap all of the above….

A lot of positive comments here so I may return again to read them. I've never rated him personally and a Chelsea friend of mine just contacted me to offer his condolences. Then again, I was wrong about Moyes so it remains to be seen if I'm wrong again. I agree no overhaul is needed just some key areas, but one of those key areas has IMHO held West Ham back for many seasons and that is we don't offer enough of a threat up front and it puts pressure on the midfield and defence. If he can solve that alone it might be worthwhile. It's very much fingers crossed here, I'm afraid.

He doesn't need to overhaul the squad, just needs to sign a couple of players for the key areas already mentioned, and get the team organised, motivated and working hard.
I'm hopeful he will use and get the best out of the players we already have as we just had a major overhaul in the summer.

I'm hopeful it will work...but cautious.

This is west ham after all and no matter how many times I either get my hopes up or think it can't get any worse somehow it does.
