He is probably deceny when fit but unlikely we will ever see that. We got it wrong. Hopefully a lesson learned but he’s striker 54 under Sullivan and the track record shows no sign of improving especially now Sullivan is taking back control of transfers with Salthouse ( aka Shithouse )

He had a half-decent injury record in his one season at Dortmund - and played 29 games. But if you look back at the rest of his career, he’s been plagued with injuries (including a long-term problem with his knee).

Good player when fit. Which isn’t often enough to justify his fee or wages.

Funny you should mention him. I hear theres some old fella knocking them in for fun in the french league, 8 goals in 10 apps. Not that we'd have him back, but if we did, he'd be crocked before baggage reclaim at stansted. We're just cursed for strikers.

Terrible signing by the club, all done out of desperation because of the collapsed Duran deal. As Iron Duke said, a long-term contract for a 31 year-old with a questionable fitness record was nuts.

There will be the usual finger pointing over who “exactly” signed him - Steidten, Sullivan or Lope. But it’s just another example of how we HAVE to do better with the (currently) stupid chair-tech director-manager disjointed transfer strategy we have.

People will wang on about the theory of how it’s “supposed” to work. But in typical West Ham fashion, the reality of our implementation has been a fucking disaster. It needs to be so much better co-ordinated.

I questioned why we were spending so much on a 31-year old, and the length of the contract. But we’ve been incredibly unlucky with his injuries. I don’t think he was particularly injury prone in Germany. Certainly not in the last few years.
