It's staggering that Book only got a chance to play at the top level later in life and then won three trophies in three seasons. A top player who gave all to City.

The Malcolm Allison era at City was memorable, I seem to remember Allison in the team bath with some page 3 girl and a bottle of Champagne. Hahahaha

I remember  meeting  John Burridge   at Watford FC in 1982 ISH  12.00 straight off the bus and into to the bar .. he was off his nut 
That was an eye opener.

Won the league as Captain & the League cup as manager with City
Was reading that he was 30 when he joined City (played til he was 39) but Allison who was assistant manager at the time got him to say he was 28 & alter his birth certificate so that the transfer would be agreed. 
Seems to have been a universally respected & loved man across all of football. 
Mike Summerbee reckoned his mate George Best said Tony Book was his toughest opponent

I will never forget going up to Maine rd  in 1972 to see us lose a very tight match 4-3, with an absolute wonder goal from Johnny Ayris. But what I also recall is that if it wasn’t for a freakish clearance by Tony Book from a Pop Robson shot it would have been 4-4.  Pop shot from 12 yards out and Book was running across the goal with the ball going behind him into the net. I was in the main stand and on my feet anticipating a certain goal. Amazingly Book threw up his leg behind him and the ball flicked his heel and just cleared the bar.  
btw Bobby Moore scored a rare headed goal that day.
I was also at the 69 final when Book lifted the trophy.
