I suspect if we had “had a go” Palace would of put 4 or 5 past us. Lop actually tried to do that early on in the season and set us up to attack but even with a fully fit squad we dont have the players to do much other than sit deep and counter. Its why we conceded 3, 4 or 5 in a lot of games. Counters or fast transition was our strength when we got to Europe but was a hard watch at times as we sat deep and ironically just like today especially first half. Trouble today though is we had 1 fit forward so zero pace upfront to go with zero pace and movement as usual in midfield.
Potter needs Bowen, Summerville, Todibo available asap and some miracle loan of a central midfielder with “legs” or we will simply limp on ( literally ).
how do you counter with just two players committed forward? in the second half Ings is closing down the goalkeeper and looking around for help, no one is within thirty yards of him. it's like we were playing to keep it 1-0
Because that was precisely the game plan from minute 1.

We kept a clean sheet and beat Palace in the reverse fixture at Selhurst 2-0. 18 shots to their 14.

5 years and 650m Euros gave us this pile of dog shit.
People are probably sick of my negativity, but fucking, this who are happy with our progress from Upton Park mist either be dumb of blind.
14 at best this season. Let's hope we can do something fun next season.

I genuinely don’t know what we’re going to do with Kilman. He’s very poor for a £40m player, and we’ll never get our money back on him. We’d find it hard to sell him at all, frankly, due to his seven-year deal.
The people behind that transfer should be shot.
We can fuck Mav off and accept a loss on that money. But Kilman cost a fortune and is, at best, a bottom half player. Hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think he’s capable of playing in a top-ten Premier League side.
What was really scary was we started with 8 Defensive minded players and still conceded our customary 2 goals with 0 shots on target. Palace could play in reverse gear the whole match and still cruise to victory, let alone 1st!

Everyone naturally looks to blame after any defeat but no Bowen or CF was always gonna be a problem.
We could have Pele or Maradona up front. You can't score if you don't even pass the ball forward. And if you leave it until the 2nd half to put some attacking effort in, after the opposition has already scored, it's going to be more difficult to create chances.

I would add, as hindered as Potter is by this crap squad, there should NEVER be an excuse for any Premier League team to have zero shots on goal over almost 100 minutes of football.
Never.
It is a shameful aspect of modern football. We’re severely hampered by injuries and terrible signings right now. But no professional team or manager can look themselves in the mirror after going an entire game without a shot on goal. Even if you need to hit a couple from distance - make their keeper do some work!
SB, yes but sadly that's the only style of manager that midget bastard will employ
I actually though Fabianski was at fault for both goals today. Yes Kilman back off, but he also showed him to one side and meant there was only one place he could shoot. Half the goal was blocked by Kilman's positioning. And he shoots from edge of the area. For me Fabianski should do better.
The second...the penalty...the ball ran loose, he was slow to it, then when he couldn't get there went through it anyway and took the man out, and then should have saved a poor penalty which is the side he always goes, and didn't.
you can't win games if there's a thirty yard gap between the two advanced players and the rest of the team, guehi could have read a book out there. we were that fucking shit

We are so thin as a squad so injuries gave had a massive impact. Should Paqueta have started up top again? Well it looked like he had a knock in the warm up so maybe that was the switch and tbh we all wanted Kudus to start centrally. But if you cannot win midfield and cant get the ball , you cant give any central striker service.
I thought Alvarez was one of our half decent players but agree it was a low bar. We’re so static due to lack of pace. It going to take until next season, returning players like Bowen, a preseason and some good recruitment to start seeing a things really change. Potter just needs to scape another 10 points to buy some time.
everyone will say he picked the wrong players but there are so few alternatives. In hindsight we say Soler should start and Scarles but Soler come on and was part of the failed press that led to their first and decisive goal when we had 11 men on the pitch. The 2 CDMs were not progressive at all but simply made it hard for Palace to open us up.
Few more downs before there are any ups. Lets see how we do once we have Bowen, Sommerville, Fullkrug, Todibo available.

Three teenagers on the pitch by the end the only highlight.
Drab.
It felt more like a token gesture than truly believing they would make a difference. 'Look Boss, I played all the kids like you asked, I at least did that didn't I...'
I actually felt sorry for Orford coming on for his debut under those circumstances expected to do something to drag us back in to it. He did alright considering, no major scare but he did understandably look like a rabbit in headlights.

Potter will need time. Set up defensively and tried to frustrate Palace as it was likely they would dominate the ball. Bring Soler on to get more attacking intent and we tried to press but simply the same problem weve had for ages, too slow. Palace beat the press, 3 passes and then Kilman backs off and then goal.
We have 5 players out and mist would play. The squad is appalling. No pace whatsoever aside from Kudus and we desperately need a few back to be able to compete with any team.
Potter will improve us I belueve but its going to take time. Will fans give him that time?
he didn't have to pick Cresswell, didn't have to start with eight non attacking players, he's digging his own grave with shit like today but you 'give him time'
