Palace swarmed Kudus every time he got the ball, it was clear they had him pencilled in as the main threat. It worked he had a poor game.

Soler flashes but hasn’t shown enough yet, but there is a footballer in there somewhere.

Paqueta thinks he is better than he is. Too frivolous with the ball, never makes the easy pass, plays better when he drops back and finds space to turn.

Summerville and Scarles both give me hope.

Alvarez, like Soucek is very limited although Soucek does score more than his fair share of goals so he has to play.

Gotta find a center forward to give our defense an outlet if nothing else.

Today we were out muscled in midfield, they got stuck in and were more physical and we didn’t like it.

So many holes to fix, It’s not gonna be easy and will take some time.

stavros and Cresswell have got to go asap. It’s criminal that we pay them to play still.

I doubt we'll get much from the next few games but at least we have a week now to prepare. Potters come in and immediately had 3 games in a week with a bare bones and demoralised squad that he hardly knows. They gave it their all on tuesday but today went a bit tits up. Palace were good. I think 3 points from these 2 games would have been 0 points with jlop. This one goes in the fuck it bucket. I cant get angry about it.

Fulham did that to him as well. But you know what, if they double up on one player that means they are leaving space for us elsewhere. Who was exploiting that?
No one.
Thats the point.
There aren’t really any other fit attack minded players TO exploit anything. Literally the only other thing he could have done was start Ings instead of guido. There was simply no one else available.

Paq could have played no.9. Soler play as left sided attack instead of Emerson, Emerson play as left back. Kudus on right. Orford instead of Rodriguez.

Thats enough attackers on to take advantage of any doubling up on Kudus.

Instead, we just play Kudus and 90 defenders...

He is done, how is he still collecting a pay check ffs.

we also had Emerson on the field too and the young kid on Scarles on the bench.

I know it’s only Ings but why didn’t he start?

we offered nothing going forward. I very much doubt we will set up that way again.

Cresswell played centre back. AWB couldn’t as he did before because there was no one else available to play RWB.
Cresswell did ok, too. He's not the future, obviously, but there was nothing wrong with the way he played today.

Look on the bright side …. Mavropanos can’t play next week
Potter at least has 16 games to work out who to shift & look at some of the young lads
A lot of our players aren’t up to it which must be obvious to him
After the Fulham game he said we have a lot to work on & must be even more aware of that now.
The likes of Cresswell, Coufal, Ings, Antonio etc should have gone ages ago
Add Mavropanos Fullkrug Rodriguez & Soucek to that

You are spot on Nick, what could he have done differently and then seeing Paqueta get injured during the warm up was the icing on the cake.

This lot on here want instant success, we need to be more like Bournemouth who stuck by their manager and look at the rewards.

Too many whining little bitches on here.

I can guarantee one of them will come back and say something about my love of Moyes but I am 100% behind Potter, he is the real deal.

It's fuck all to do with instant success, it's about giving yourself the best chance of competing. Starting with seven (eight if you include soucek) defensive players is surrendering the game before it's started

By playing Kudus wide, you thick Moyes loving cսnt. Of course you'll gonna die on another hill supporting eight men behind the ball. You did it for months

Same shape, the same back three he started against Villa, Kudus & Emerson/Scarles wide, just two of the lesser gifted midfielders shielding (even though i'd only pick one), and Paqueta & Soler behind Ings
You see this shows that you know fuck all.

The only reason we had success against Villa in the first half was Summerville.

So how do you replace him?

                            Fabianski

Wan-bissaka Antonio Cut-out Kilman Emerson

                         Alvarez     Soucek

                    Kudus Paqueta Soler

                                    Ings

Something like that instead of the Gutless dross he served up with 8 defensive players.
Ooh I play football manager so I know stuff.

But no, Potters cool. Way too early to seriously dig him out.

Yeah you simply cant judge him given the limited resources he’s having to work with at the moment. It’s like taking a knife to a gun fight.

My main concern with Potter was the feeling from some Brighton fans and many a Chelsea fan that his teams ran out of ideas in the final third.  Today I don't think we even got that far!  I was hoping that with Kudus up top he would have been told to stay level with their centre backs and we could launch a few balls over the top for him to chase and use his dribbling and strength, but to be fair to him when he made a run the ball from centre backs or full backs was short and sideways or back.  He was far too deep though and his efforts in closing down weren't good enough.

It wasn't a good set up from the start but it suggested Potter not trusting his centre halves and knowing if we push too high we will get done for pace on the counter and that's been proven today and in several games recently.  We just don't have the pace, simple as that.  That said you can't knock Potter when it's not his players.  We all know recruitment has been shocking and Potter must get a chance to see if he can get any in now and then if he can rebuild in the summer.  Problem is who is going to pay for some of these players?  £40,000,000 for Kilman, bloody hell, I mean just think we sold Thilo Kehrer for a mere £9,500,000.  £27,000,000 for Füllkrug.  £25,500,000 for Luis Guilherme who has hardly kicked a ball.  What wastage.  Potter has a massive job on his hands.
