Not my bag.. but his work was different and had you thinking at least.?...
A welcome change from the Arnies and Stallone's in the 80s
The cinematography in all his work at the time was class

Nothing generic about David Lynch that's for sure.

Twin peaks and Blue Velvet stand the test of time imo...and some.

Loved his stuff. The horror was often infused with humour, most of what he did was, and I don't think it was pretentious at all, although I rarely understood it. One of my favourite films of his is "The Straight Story" which I seem to remember included in the opening credits something like "Walt Disney Presents a David Lynch film", which I just thought was weird.

Blue Velvet and Mulholland drive are a couple of my favourite films. At least films I'd watch multiple times as they are so engaging.

The Elephant Man was good. Everything else I've seen, by him, is just a load of pretentious shit, though. Did well to persuade Patricia Arquette to do a full frontal nude scene, mind, even if the rest of the film was crap.

Went to the London Film Festival screening of Mulholland Drive with Lynch & the female stars attending
He came walking down the aisle while the film was being introduced & sat in the empty seat on the end of the row next to me & my girlfriend
After the film he was being interviewed in the foyer by a couple of journos while Naomi Watts stood all on her own in the corner waiting for him
Did I go and talk to her? Noooooo

I am with you on Eraserhead - I did not get it all but he was brilliant.
Wild at Heart (what a way to start a film!) and Mulholland Drive were wonderful and I loved Twin Peaks. He always worked with great people too espcially Angelo Badalimenti.
His go at Dune was a total mess but a glorious mess.

Always thought that Eraserhead was a pile of pretentious wank. Not sure anyone was entirely expected to know what the fuck was going on. Not sure Lynch himself really knew.
Elephant Man on the other hand...........sublime film making.

My favourite Director. Was hoping for something new from him.  :-(

Sad loss.

I can remember watching Twin Peaks after a night at a rave and it mentally disturbed me for a bit

Blue Velvet is a good film

Not entirely mu cuppa. But at least he’s version of Dune was closer too the novel than that Girl Boss BS that was released a few years back. Straight Story was also very good. Can see a lot of hipsters being upset.Anyway.

RIP.
