WHUFC U21 Loan Watch

Post Iron Duke »

I don’t know about you, but I love it when a player makes it through the ranks to become a first team regular. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen often these days. This is a shame because giving young players a chance is an area where we could have an edge over the traditional top 6.

The current crop give me some cause for optimism, having won the FA Youth Cup and U18 League South a couple of seasons back. Maybe two or three can make it. No fewer than eight U21 players have gone out on a season loan to lower league clubs. Meanwhile, Casey, Scarles and Orford remain at the club. Hopefully, they will get a few minutes on the pitch, but I’m not holding my breath. Mubama had a few chances last season but mostly disappointed with his lack of technique. Inexplicably, he has now joined Man City to give Haaland competition.

So, to the eight who are currently out on loan. How are they getting on?

1. Callum Marshall - Huddersfield (League One). After a disappointing loan spell at West Brom last season, Marshall has dropped down to League One. So far, he has done quite well and already found the net. Yesterday, he played for 67 minutes before being replaced.

2. George Earthy - Bristol City (Championship). A lot of great things expected of Earthy. He didn’t make the squad yesterday. Is he injured?

3. Michael Forbes - Bristol Rovers (League One). Did not make the squad.

4. Freddie Potts - Portsmouth (Championship). Player of the season at Wycombe last year, but unused sub yesterday.

5. Krisztian Hegyi - Motherwell (Scottish Premier). Unused sub.

6. Patrick Kelly - Doncaster (League Two). Came on in the 78th minute.

7. Levi Laing - Cheltenham (League Two). Unused sub.

8. Gideon Kodua - Wycombe (League One). Came on in the 88th minute.

I make that 81 minutes of football between 8 players yesterday. Early days but a bit worrying. I’ll keep this updated throughout the season (if I can be bothered).

So you chose to ignore the “good game” bit?

Dozzell was lucky not to give away a penalty for handball and get a second yellow card.

Yep, sloppy is the right word for him.

No doubt he was HAULED OFF to rest him as he’s so good, according to idiots on here.

Earthy played quite well by most accounts, but missed a great chance just before he was subbed off. I hope he gets a run.

Marshall came on for Huddersfield and made an assist, but Huddersfield could not find an equaliser and slipped to a 3-2 defeat.

Forbes has gone to Colchester but didn’t feature today.

Doesn’t rate him at all.

He reckons Dozzell is much the superior player.

I watched the Pompey/Burnley game today…wish I didn’t as it was a 0-0 bore draw.

Potts hauled off after 65 mins.

Pompey are the worst side in the Championship by some distance and he can’t get near their team.

Maybe it’s time to accept that Potts just ain’t all that.

Given he plays 90mins every week am guessing the Pompey manager thought Potts needed a rest
Team is obviously a shambles without him
Stemmed the bleeding after they were 5-0 down after an hour at least

Finished 5-1. Game changer.

Talking if game changers, George Earthy came on in the 75th minute and Bristol City scored two minutes later to win the game. Put him in the starting lineup Manning you useless tosser.

Potts comes on at 5-0 down and already made Portsmouth stronger, their manager fucked up by not starting him.

Two goals and two assists for Diangana. I see Potts dropped from the starting line up today.
And that'll be partly why they're 4-0 down having assisted in a 3-1 win in the last game. All sounds good for Potts and not to much for Portsmouth without him today. Cheers for the update though.

Pompey have made several changes from the side that beat Stoke in mid-week. Looks like they’ve got half an eye on the Millwall game.

But yeah, Potts is probably also at fault for all four goals. 🙄

2nd Assist in as many games coasting to a 3-1 win.

Fantastic corner delivery. Well done son 👏

Missed a trick getting him back. I wouldn't fear giving him minutes as we do with the other U21s. I reckon he's more ready than Orford.
