West Ham reach agreement for Evan Ferguson loan from Brighton
By David Ornstein
West Ham United have reached an agreement to sign Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson on loan.
The Republic of Ireland international, whose Brighton contract runs until 2029, will have a medical later on Sunday ahead of the proposed move that will see West Ham pay his salary, loan fee and add-ons.
The Athletic previously reported that the Premier League club were prepared to allow the 20-year-old to depart the club permanently in the winter transfer window.
This move will see him move to the London Stadium for the remainder of the season on a straight loan without an option to buy and see the forward reunite with Graham Potter, who was Ferguson’s first head coach at Brighton.
The Athletic reported in November that Brighton were expected to make Ferguson available for loan during the upcoming transfer window, while the DealSheet on January 21 cited interest from West Ham, Everton and Bournemouth, alongside other Premier League clubs.
Bayer Leverkusen had been interested in a loan for Ferguson, however that move hinged on their striker Victor Boniface securing a move to Al Nassr, a deal which fell through when the Saudi Arabian side signed Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran instead.
Brighton and the player’s camp are in agreement that he needs game time to get regular game time and kick-start his career again.
Ferguson has struggled for game time this campaign, finding himself competing with Danny Welbeck, Joao Pedro and Georginio Rutter under head coach Fabian Hurzeler.
He has made 15 appearances in all competitions this campaign, but started only twice in the Premier League, scoring once.
