Was Maresca at the match? Apparently we sat with 10 players behind the ball and Chelsea deserved their win!
Thats definitely not the game I watched.
That annoyed me. People's interpretation of a game is so warped. Low block football kinda means you make no attempt to keep or progress the ball, the minute you lose it you get back into your low block and stay there. Thats not what we were doing.
We kept it tight and were a bit more conservative.
Our goal came from pressing them and they made a mistake, not from some counter attack.

I cant remember who on the site was saying the U21 coaches at West Ham think Guilherme is gash and is shit in training...
lol.. people do talk some shit on here!
Probably C & B or the Bobby Moore stand, most people believe the shit they come out with.
Took a lucky deflection for them to get the winner.
overall I’m happy with the performance, we were competitive which is refreshing although the commentators were all Chelsea which was annoying.
I can see the vast improvement in our performances which is the most important thing.
Chelsea were over the moon they ponced a result in the end which says a lot.

The decision not to award a foul on Bowen was ridiculous. It's basically saying that foul play is OK as long as it's not in the final 2/3's of the field. A foul is a fucking foul regardless of where it's committed.
Agree. I would accept it if its five minutes back but not when the foul basically kick started the move for their goal. It’s a completely flawed system when it is decided at discretion. What sort of bollocks is that?
As soon as they started making changes in the 50th, it was obvious either their manager was shitting himself and making crazy decisions in a panic or we were in big trouble as we had nothing on the bench to counter it.
I’m impressed with potter, he’s a step up on Moyes, just a shame we wasted money on players from Steidten & Lopetegui that aren’t good enough for the premier league. We have many players not good enough for Potters game - Areola, Kilman, Mavros, Solar, Kudus, and that’s even before including the likes of Coufal, Creswell & Ings.
First and foremost, Kudus needs moving on at the end of the season, someone will pay £60m (Man Utd may pay £80m) and we can reinvest. Guilherme looked lively in his natural position though.
all in all, massively frustrated by that, feels like we may have a very good manager now, but he has his hands tied behind his back due to other people’s mistakes.

Overall, a decent performance. It wasn’t just a plucky, backs to the wall performance. We offered a lot going forward but just lacked the final composed ball. Their first goal came from a foul on Bowen and the second was a lucky deflection. Referee was very poor.
Agree with with all of this. The gulf in quality was too great though. We have one of the kids starting and 3 senior players on the bench. Going in the right direction but as others have pointed out, it will all depend on badly needed replacements that never seem to arrive.
positives tonight - cresswell and coufal even without legs look better than mavros, soler was great and didn't stop running, the two shielding the back three were solid, kudus worked very hard, the young brazilian kid had great vision and bowen was a constant threat
only negative was mavros giving the ball straight to the keeper when we had great possession late on, can't fault anything else

For an 18 year old kid, Guillherme needs to be backed to come good. Looks no worse than Scarles or Orford....and he's basically their equivalent and should have the same expectations. Not his fault he cost a lot of money.
Maybe we need the funds, but we'd be stupid to sell him IMO.
The remarkable thing about Mavropanos is that Steidten thought we should buy him... and Moyes thought we should play him... and Lopetegui thought we should keep him. Turns out you can fool most of the people most of the time
Potter is taking us in the right direction.
Unfortunately, we have a shitload of bench warmers ready to be replaced.
4 years of bad management is hurting the club
Tough one to take. Quite how the first goal is allowed to stand is beyond me, and the game has swing on that. Cannot understand how the ref misses the foul and then how the VAR having agreed it is a foul deems it not material to the goal using his discretion is madness. It’s cheating to favour certain clubs, has to be. I say that because if it’s the other way around, I’d bet that gets disallowed.
That aside, once again, it’s night and day from Lopetegui. Organised, but still dangerous on the break and playing decent football. Bowen is just exceptional. So good.

We knew all window we were signing Ferguson. Why couldn’t we just get it over the line yesterday so he’d be available to play tonight. It’s infuriating we drag our heels every January window
Done out of at least a point by the officials. The pathetic Attwell then letting Chelsea take ages over corners, free kicks and goal kicks without penalty. A lot of positives though, certainly didn't lie down with a patched up team. Thought Irvine was excellent and considering they get a lot of stick thought Cress and Coufal did ok. Like what I'm seeing from Potter but he needs backing or we will end up seeing Bowen doing a Declan.
