Youth players

Post Nutsin »

So it looks like Potter is taking a look at some of the young academy players.

We’ve been asking for it for a while, so now that we have  seen a few who do you think has what it takes to carve out a good career in the Prem?

I’m sure there are a couple we haven’t seen yet in the first team for whatever reason.

So who do you think is gonna make the grade that is up and coming?

I thought Earthy looked good but haven’t kept up with his development. Scarles seems to be the one at the moment that has the best shot.

Who you got your eye on?

I remember Potts destroying the Spurs midfield in that Australian game.

He will come back ready to go and next season will be his breakthrough with us, I fully expect him to play for England one day.

Kodua came on as sub at the weekend and played extra time. He’s had injuries but the manager seems to like him.

I’m not sure if he’ll play at a higher level than League One, which let’s face it is still a good level. Not everyone can reach the very top.

It's so hard to predict how it'll go for these youth players, except for one like Rice who was a genuine standout - absolutely everyone except Vexed could see that he was going to go all the way.

I'm reluctant to make any predictions. I thought Longelo was going to make it but he couldn't hold his place at Birmingham City and is now on loan at Cambridge Utd. I haven't seen enough of Potts to comment but I reckon Scarles could make it, but only if he continues to learn and improve. I hope it's not the kiss of death, but one that nobody on here has mentioned but who I think has loads of potential is Gideon Kodua. He's on loan at Wycombe but I haven't heard any news of him for a while. Anyone know how he's doing?

Yea. ?...   what a cuntish statement  that is from a so called WHU supporter.
I hope he comes back and proves you wrong.
Why say such a  shit fing ?
Mate, I'm not the only one saying it.

I watch a lot of Pompey games, and he ain't up to it.

He was on loan at Wycombe in League 1 and seemed to do quite well. I suspect that's his level.

No point putting them in the Prem too early. Was just watching that Mikey Moore for Spurs. Embarassingly short at the top level and let them down today. Needs a Div 1 or 2 loan to see if he can develop.
Yea, Moore was meant to be the real deal, but clearly he's not and just threatens to be good. As you say it's tough to make that last step up.

I know it was against Luton but liked the way Earthy passed & moved. Has a nice touch & seemed to be on the same wavelength as Paqueta & combined well with him
Potts & Marshall we will see when they come back, Orford looked tidy enough but haven’t seen enough of him yet.
Hopefully Casey fills out a bit more & would like to see him get a couple of games late on ahead of Mavropanos
Scarles always looks like he's got the raving hump..👍

he's a regular in the PL2 team, they play a similar system to potter and the front three are pretty interchangeable. sean (4) and josh ajala (5) have been the main goal scorers. they had a bad start to the season, but now on a nice win streak.

their next game should also be on YT next friday

He is at the level Irvine is or Downes even. Wont let us down, do a job, neat and tidy but yet another lacking the athleticism, speed, legs we need in central midfield. We have too many of the same type of player in that centre mid atea unfortunately. Potts and what I have seen of Orford look similar to Soler in the way they play and Soler is the quickest of them. Orford and Potts hopefully develop further but they, at this juncture, look like they will play at Championship or perhaps Premiership but not another Rice type standout player. Not seen enough of Earthy.

Scarles looks the most likely to make it currently at Prem level. Most physically strong of them and good engine although not exceptionally quick so might get exposed by some wide mem in the Prem.

we shall see.

A good 'non tinted' overview that, Alf. Surely Orford has to go out on loan, he looks miles away right now, at least Earthy seemed to have some confidence about him and was on the front foot. Our current midfield options are terrible and you have to wonder how it come to that. Might be OK if we were playing walking football.

I’m not reading much into Earthy not getting masses of game time at Bristol City. He look very comfortable in our first team last season, and I think he suits Potter’s style. I’d say he was more likely than Orford at this stage, but Orford seems very highly rated at the club so again, won’t over read his two cameos so far.

I don't know much about the U21s, but I watched them against Dagenham recently and thought Swyer looked very good: quick, stylish and comfortable on the ball.

I’m sure our resident Spurs fan will be on to slag off Potts.

The fact that Potter and his team turn up is a huge boost because they had no pathway through under Moyes.

It could well be that Potts is Championship level. It’s a big step up to the Premier League, but he has a decent chance.

Earthy has been mainly used as a substitute at Bristol City, and hasn’t done enough to demand a starting spot. It’s a shame because there is a good player there.

Scarles has looked very comfortable in the first team. He’s made a few mistakes that haven’t yet costed us. He is very much the understudy for Emerson, but he has the tools to take over from him.

Orford has the skill and athleticism to make it at the top level. So far, he has had a couple of uneventful cameo appearances but he is one to keep an eye on.

The U18s smashed Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup Final in 2023, and two of Arsenal’s players have already broken into the first team. So you would expect two or maybe even three of our team to make it.

Few people seem to have watched a lot of Pompey
Mad Ferret reckons he watches with his sailor boyfriend who supports them
Double date, Ladyboy?

Potts is getting good experience
Let’s see him back in the summer & Potter can assess him
I see yesterday they were the better team at Sheff Utd but managed to lose 2-1
Sheff U had an expected goals of 1.12 & Portsmouth’s 2.58 if that means anything
