​​​​​​In the past he's favoured a 3-4-3 formation...hard to see how we can do that currently with only 3 senior CBs, one of whom is injured. He's also played wingers (Solly March as an example) in the wing back roles.

Typically when a 3-4-3 gets announced on a match day the manager is immediately described as being too negative, too cautious etc. I guess it depends on the composition of the 4.

He's given young players chances...hopefully that continues at West Ham.

No certainty Potter will turn this club around but after only 5 weeks there have been some performance improvements with a few injuries. Today was the first disappointment esp first half.

But no time to be writing him off either. It was always a massive challenge and not solved immediately because the squad he inherited is so so poor, too old and slow.

Need to scrape a couple of victories and working om bringimg in youth. Dont expect marvels next season either, the mess of a squad we have will take several windows to fix and the coaching / tactics will take a while to become second nature to the players

It's concerning - but across both managers and the late-era of Moyes.

From almost the morning after we won a trophy, the club has made very poor decisions. The Rice money was spent abysmally, Moyes let the squad get older and slower and didn't replace a striker, Lopetegui was an abysmal appointment and wasted most of his £120m outlay on poor, massively overpaid and slow players, and January was woefully inactive for a club with so many obvious problems with its squad.

Potter hasn't covered himself in glory yet, sure. But I genuinely think it's too early to judge him - he's not been here long, the squad he inherited is terrible and expensive, and there's a huge amount of work to do to put things right. He wouldn't have been my choice as head coach/manager, but he's definitely the sort of coach who needs time to build his team to play his way.

There are a couple of worrying early signs. His teams are notoriously shot-shy and that is evident already. It needs to stop - quickly. But we do need to give the manager some time to put things right. This is nothing like 'his' squad - and we should judge him when he's signed his preferred players and coached them through a pre-season.

The rest of this season is a write-off, though. Abysmal waste of a year.

Watched the first 10 mins then got bored as just become the usual soundbites and pats on the back etc. Seen it all before. But yes, very encouraging and he seems to be a really good fit and is a modern day coach. Let's see what he comes up with against Brentford.

Potter makes a lot of sense and obviously an intelligent guy especially in the world of football.  A degree in social studies and leadership, worked his way up from the 9th tier of the game where some of us numpties have played in or above.  Understands the psychological side of the game and values team over individuals. Closest to John Lyall in that sense that I have seen at West Ham.  

I , and many others I suspect, want him to successful but it will take time even though we are now seeing a proper team effort.  Moyes and last summer’s less than perfect transfer window left us a weak squad despite 5 or 6 very good players.  

Its not going to be fixed totally next summer. I guess we will be patient if we continue to see progress but there are always ups and downs along the way. If we can address the lack of legs in central midfield ( will take recruitment of 2 players imo because we do not have that profile of player in Potts, Orford, Scarles and Earthy although some hopefully may make the squad), we will see a marked inprovement in our ability to press and control games.

Agreed Leroys,  Can even see the confidence of the players returning.  A makeshift defence last night but all seemed comfortable with the ball.   I'm more positive than I've been for a long while and am actually enjoying watching us.

We are better organised, he has several systems in mind during a game, he plays the kids, we are more competitive

Plus he never moans, just gets on with it

With a threadbare squad he's done a marvellous job

Wont really know what he’s capable of achieving until next season imo

Needs a mostly fit squad, recruitment to fill some large holes, a pre season and time to further develop the players and bed in younger recruits etc.

But with a depleted squad he has made us noticeably more competitive, better passing and possession, better pressing and not conceding a hatful and lookimg wide open. We still concede too many but have improved. Lets see how the next 5 games go and take another check then

The Palace game was the only stinker. Otherwise despite the ridiculously depleted squad we've been competitive, positive and improving in every game thus far. 4 heavy defeats out of 4 under Lop.

Ran out of steam in the cup after injuries and an excellent first half
Fulham, ground it out with positive play
Palace- see above, not good
Villa- better team after 10 mins and deserved to win
Chelsea- deserved at least a draw and only bad luck and officiating stopped us getting three.

Dread to think how badly eviscerated we'd have been in all of them under the former manager.

Almost feels like someone forgot to log out and back in from another username there.

I think we’ve got the new 2.0 model of Potter, which I like the look and sound of, not the meek version I remember at Brighton, or the bewildered one at Chelsea. Looks like he has a bit more about him now, and I’d imagine he’d love nothing more than to stick it to those cunts on Monday night.

I had a feeling he’d like Soucek and really rely on him short term, but I didn’t know about this. 

Say what you like about Tommy’s skills with the ball at his feet but the guy is a model pro. 

Soucek can take his game to another level under Potter. More possession. Soucek is going to have to improve on his retention and distribution. But i do think that Soucek has been one of the most improved players since Conference win.
