Brian Murphy dies

Post dm »

Aged 92
I always felt he was absolutely born to play the character of George Roper.  George and Mildred still makes me laugh when I catch an episode on ITV3

I used to see him out and about in Bromley 20 years ago. Always looked old and miserable. Maybe that was just his natural look.

George and Mildred was a spin off from Man about the house I think, went in to be the more popular of the 2 shows.

George was a great character and Brian Murphy was the perfect choice to play him, Murphy was in so many other TV shows as bit part characters in the 70,s and 80,s he seemed to pop up in so many shows.

RIP

Its a shame. George roper was a great character but 92 is a great innings. There's a this is your life episode on YouTube featuring Brian . He was a Portsmouth supporter as he grew up on the isle of wright. But his son is a huge west ham supporter and it's mentioned on the episode . RIP Brian thanks for the laughs .

George and Mildred started 50 years ago, he must have only been about 40

.. Good acting, or tough paper round ?

A bit like John Thaw being about 33 in the Sweeney
.

Was funny how he looked 70 for around 50 years!  As said a face that you grew up with.  Mildred will be waiting to give him grief!  RIP

One of the tv characters you grew up with. Good innings.

At least he won't have to make an excuse for an early night tonight.

RIP.

Sad to hear this although I was more surprised at learning that he hadn't died some time ago!

Spent many years in Last Of The Summer Wine apparently which I suppose is why I was unaware that he was still alive.

Anyway, RIP Brian.
