Anyone else feel like it’s gone?
My 43rd birthday today
I’ll admit I’ve been bought quite a few 8% beers by my family which I’ve gone through today
but they’ve gone home now and I’m sitting here now thinking about West Ham and trying to evaluate how I feel
I have 3 loves in life, music, film and sport
West Ham taking the crown in the sport department
but I just feel like it’s gone
by that I mean my passion, I still care, I’m still making this post which means I obviously feel something
but when we go behind it doesn’t hurt like it used to, and on the rare occasion we score when it matters I just don’t react like I used to
I feel like I’ve fallen out of love with this club but I can’t just forget about them and fuck off and do something else
Anyone else feeling like this?
if not then fair enough and delete this thread

Re: Anyone else feel like it’s gone?
Money has killed the fucking game, officials are biased towards the so called big clubs because the gravy train demands that those clubs be involved in all competitions, and that the gravy train continues to roll.
Years ago, the players were just the same as us, they lived amongst us, some even caught the same fucking bus that we all used, they were on almost the same money that we earned, now they earn obscene amounts that could feed a small country.
The game is finished in its current form.

Re: Anyone else feel like it’s gone?
I don't necessarily feel it's lost I just feel numbed by it all. Too many losses when we should have won games, too many players who don't give a shit about the team, just their back pockets being filled with cash. Too many plastic fans and too much of the media banging on about 'little old West Ham'.
I care passionately about the club, the people and the community that follows us. I just don't seem to care like I did if we lose. I never watch us on the TV, can't be arsed with getting wound up and ruining mine and everybody elses day.
So is it lost? No. Is it a watered down version of support? Probably yes.
Do I care less? Probably, but differently.
Do I care more? No
Do I still sing my heart out when i go to games? You bet I do.

Re: Anyone else feel like it’s gone?
Dont feel as connected as I did but then its changed. People I used to go with have dispersed around the country and have either got health issues or kids draining what little they have, the community around the ground no longer exists. A soulless stadium with a overpriced shopping centre in the middle of London's biggest squat.
I know nobody at the stadium anymore, the community around it non-existent and hate football supporters and the whole experience is a chore and tiring for an old mess like me.
it's only places like this that remind me why I have still got that urge to punish myself watching every weekend. That and my kids who are fanatical and have the passion I once had 30 years ago.

Totally nailed it there. We shouldn't be in a position where he's the one who has to get shoehorned in as there's no other choice, or that he's still retained a few seasons after being past the standard for being a solid starter. It's a real problem having so many 'past it' players sticking around and getting extensions when their should already be a young alternative pressing to usurp the incumbant, rather than the yesterday's man being the back up. It shows we have in no way been ruthless enough, or invested anywhere near enough in finding young players to fill gaps in the squad instead of relying on 'experience'. Who was/is the CB meant to be coming through when Ogbonna, Zouma et all got too old or crippled? There's been no-one. Part of that I blame Moyes for, for being a chicken shit with youth players, but also for the wrong focus on where our new players should be coming from. Surely cause to be much more optimistic now. GP's track record is buying youth with specific attributes for his system/squad in mind, rather than whether they are a 'proven' PL performer provided Sullivan lets him get on with it.Sullivan is like an old school dad who made it rich, bit like Del Boy. He’ll live on a council estate but drive a clapped out Rolls Royce and think it makes sense! Every now and then we’ll get a 50m player, a top player who’s got a few “problems” shall we say and neglect other parts of the team. So instead of being balanced we get this weird stuff where I’m looking at 50m Brazilians and Ghanaians and yet we look like total shit.
also, Moyes favoured loyalty over performance. And that’s fucked us completey. You can’t have that type of loyalty at this level. You do have to be somewhat ruthless just to keep the shit going.
So yeah, it’s a very odd way to run a club.
Exactly that! Face value is everything. So a 'razzle dazzle' signing is just papering over cracks all the time. The player es expected to fix all the inherent issues rather than be a part of an overall funcitoning unit. I do think tht if GP has the chance he'll try and change this. No stars in his Brighton teams.

Re: Anyone else feel like it’s gone?
I bought a bond for one reason. That was solely to stop me from going to the London Stadium and just go to away games. Best thing I ever did.
So to answer your question, yes, it's gone.

i feel like we're getting spitroasted by both our owners and the greater, shitter meta-football trends.
the stadium is the lovechild of both of those factors. it's the perfect encapsulation of west ham a quarter of the way through the new century. drugged cattle in an abattoir.

Re: Anyone else feel like it’s gone?
Just baffled by how our owners can say this is next level, this is the reason we’ve left Upton Park
going into a season with just 3 centre backs
seeing our youth team striker leave us because of a lack of opportunities and getting more minutes at Man City
seeing Ollie Scarles impress every time he plays yet not being given a single start in the premier league despite us having nothing to play for
yet absolute shit like Cresswell, Coufal and Rodriguez are given starts
seeing another transfer window go past were we once again fail to sign a central midfielder with any pace
But it’s got to the point where none of this surprises me
Fake player bids, managers that play the worst players at the club, youth team players not being given any starts
thats how I now define this club

Re: Anyone else feel like it’s gone?
we're owned by scum, so you have to separate what the club is/was, and what's holding it back. we'll continue in this never ending cycle of the midget cսnt hiring sub standard managers and players via his agent friends. prices will continue to rise as the experience gets worse, and more & more old school fans will give up. which is ultimately what they want. a stadium full of tourists is their wet dream
Re: Anyone else feel like it’s gone?
Cresswell being wheeled out v chelsea and giving it a right old go was a good thing imo. Very west ham.
I enjoyed the chelsea, fulham and villa games.
I live abroad so dont get back much now but when i do - a couple of g&t's and a ride on the Orbit slide help makes a day of it. And meeting up with the old friends, bit of pie and mash etc, and a good auld moan on the way home when we're bummed 5-0.

I see what you’re saying about Creswell. More that his inclusion says a lot about how the club is run. I.e. it’s not serious about winning because it doesn’t replace players as they need to.
so we have 2 senior left backs, one 30 who doesn’t seem to be able to last a full game and the other 35 who would probably be playing championship football. And then an 19 yr old who is in some ways better than both of them who is only just getting a run.
says everything really. Creswell isn’t terrible and I’m sure he’s a good pro, doesn’t cost that much in wages and as a 3rd backup may not be bad. But he was our 2nd choice, so much so that we ended up playing Awb as left back. Which is mental.
the club is not serious.
So why should the fans be I suppose?

Re: Anyone else feel like it’s gone?
Our last season at UP was the last one that I went regularly. I’ve gradually come to lose interest. I haven’t even watched a game live on tv, despite having access to every one, in 2 seasons.
The fact that we are utter dogshit hasn’t helped. But I have come to despise modern day football and the media coverage of it. The cheating, diving, playacting, time wasting, VAR etc all add up to a game that’s ruined now.
Strangely I do still feel disappointed at seeing the results but not surprised any more.

Re: Anyone else feel like it’s gone?
Ironically two of our better performances were when Cresswell was in the team. And that was when Kilman was our only available central defender so the only alternative was a youth player.
I'd say if anything, the bigger link between selection and poor results is Mavropanos. Whether that's just a coincidence or really down to him is another matter.
Not to say Cresswell should be in the team, we all know he's past it now, but I don;t think he's been a reason for any bad results under GP

It's called getting old and developing some perspective on life.
When I was a teen all that really mattered was Football as there was fuck all else to occupy my time. Now that I'm 52 there are a lot more things to divert my attention compared to the 1980's of a deindustralized London init?

Re: Anyone else feel like it’s gone?
To echo everyone else's sentiments I am over the result before the final whistle, as if we are behind we invariably lose anyway. I started going to West Ham in 1968 and as someone has said before losing meant a spoilt weekend, once did all 42 league games (I couldn't even afford to do that now). Highs and lows, lots of lows but some great highs all part and parcel of supporting West Ham. As you get older, more important things take stage front and centre, so no more spoilt weekends if we lost. I was also all for moving to the big new shiny stadium, West Ham will be on level footing with the so called big clubs I thought (idiot). I was not to know that the first time I stepped into the new shiny stadium that I would immediately go oh, shit what a mistake, for me it was anyway. So, hopefully, we can just about steer clear of relegation this season and hope that next season will be so much better. As they say it's the hope that kills you. But after all this waffle, it has gone, well a bit. COYI
