U21 Loan Watch
U21 Loan Watch
I don’t know about you, but I love it when a player makes it through the ranks to become a first team regular. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen often these days. This is a shame because giving young players a chance is an area where we could have an edge over the traditional top 6.
The current crop give me some cause for optimism, having won the FA Youth Cup and U18 League South a couple of seasons back. Maybe two or three can make it. No fewer than eight U21 players have gone out on a season loan to lower league clubs. Meanwhile, Casey, Scarles and Orford remain at the club. Hopefully, they will get a few minutes on the pitch, but I’m not holding my breath. Mubama had a few chances last season but mostly disappointed with his lack of technique. Inexplicably, he has now joined Man City to give Haaland competition.
So, to the eight who are currently out on loan. How are they getting on?
1. Callum Marshall - Huddersfield (League One). After a disappointing loan spell at West Brom last season, Marshall has dropped down to League One. So far, he has done quite well and already found the net. Yesterday, he played for 67 minutes before being replaced.
2. George Earthy - Bristol City (Championship). A lot of great things expected of Earthy. He didn’t make the squad yesterday. Is he injured?
3. Michael Forbes - Bristol Rovers (League One). Did not make the squad.
4. Freddie Potts - Portsmouth (Championship). Player of the season at Wycombe last year, but unused sub yesterday.
5. Krisztian Hegyi - Motherwell (Scottish Premier). Unused sub.
6. Patrick Kelly - Doncaster (League Two). Came on in the 78th minute.
7. Levi Laing - Cheltenham (League Two). Unused sub.
8. Gideon Kodua - Wycombe (League One). Came on in the 88th minute.
I make that 81 minutes of football between 8 players yesterday. Early days but a bit worrying. I’ll keep this updated throughout the season (if I can be bothered).

Re: U21 Loan Watch
The Wycombe supporters last season were also praising young Freddie Potts last season . Plenty said he was way better than EZE was for them. I think the youngsters will end end saving the club an absolute fortune in the next few years . Potts Cummings golembekis and Ezra Mayer's to name a few .

I read the forum's and up until his injury was a leading contender for POTS (Pun intended )
I would say I've watched two-thirds of their matches as my MATE is a big Pompey fan.

Do you actually watch any Pompey games?
You're posting a load of unfounded nonsense.

Simply not true mate.
They've won the last two without him. He is a burden on Dozzell in CM.

Ferret.
Without him Portsmouth would be relegated by now.
It happens , the team are on the up before he got injured.
There's a lot of games coming up he'll start the next one.
Earthy started against Oxford on the 1st Feb when they went down to 9 men.Earthy stayed on till the 80th.
The next game against Swansea at home was a 1-0 defeat. Earthy came on in the 62nd minute but couldn't help get an equaliser.City's next game saw a 2-0 win and Earthy came on for Scot Twine, a regular change.Earthy helped with the next goal and City seales a 2-0 win.In City's last game a 1-1 draw at hometo Cardiff saw them concede a 90th minute equaliser,Earthy only came on in the 82 minute.
it seems to me that Manning isn't 100% sure about Earthy,I feel if City want to get in the play off's then they need to be more adventurous and play Earthy more from the start. We'll see. He's good and needs to play in an attacking team

Re: U21 Loan Watch
Mohamadou Kanté was back on the Paris FC bench for their 1-0 defeat by Dunkerque at the weekend. He has yet to play a single minute since he was loaned back to them for the season by West Ham in the summer.

Re: U21 Loan Watch
He seemed to do rather well at Wycombe in League 1, so yeah I reckon that’s his ceiling.

Re: U21 Loan Watch
Potts Ive watched a few times. Very tidy player, great passing and good technician with control and recycling the ball. He is not athletic or quick or that strong ( yet ) and tbh reminds me a bit of Downes in the way he plays just moving the ball on quickly but has good set piece delivery and imo a better eye for a thru ball or pass than Downes.
Honestly though, he would not be ready for a starting birth in a West Ham first team yet. Still a way off but could be ready for a squad place and getting minutes and experience that way. That seems to be the sensible plan for him and I would not be surprised if Potter thinks the same? Get him in the first team squad and start developing him to see if he can bridge the gap that currently exists for him to be a Premiership player?

Re: U21 Loan Watch
I live in Bristol and go to a lot of home games so I’ve watched the majority of Eathy’s games so far. I’m by no means an expert but he still looks like he’s a step behind top half championship level. His movement is good and he works hard - he just seems to need an extra second and his first touch isn’t quite there when pressed. He doesn’t really seem to impact games when he starts and seems to do better off the bench when the game is stretched and he has a bit more time.
Id like to be wrong but I don’t think he’ll pushing for a first team place next season.

Yes of course
I very much doubt he has any real mates just fictional ones like ladyboy.
