If you somehow think its shrewd to do your diplomacy via stupid statements on twitter rather than behind doors negotiating then fine but don't make out it's all actually just a genius move from a great statesman.
Putin must be pissing himself, Trump has done more to destabilise the west and NATO after a month in office than the USSR achieved in the entire Cold War
I don't think anyone whose not all in with him thinks he's a great statesman. I don't.
But he is speaking the language of his people and, again, if we look what he can and actually is doing, not saying off the cuff, the picture is a lot different.
He is picking on Canada (and I know you don't care about our politics) because we don't have a functioning government, including a lame duck Prime Minister, and Trudeau has been an idiot in regards to him (if we want to talked about lack of statesmanship) in the past. The last part isn't great but I think the first part is - without red and white specs on - objectively very effective. Again, I know you don't care but I am way more upset about the internal politics and economics that has left us this vulnerable, economically. There certainly is blood in the water. And not primarly for the States.
I have to disagree with the last bit, just being a late Cold War kid and studying the history in the first parts of my schooling. But there you go.
If the last few years and Ukraine has told us anything, Russia is not a threat in a conventional war sense. To me, the threats are 1) nuclear - probably less the less we push and ally against Putin - in my opinion - and 2) cyber etc. But that second one, Russia is so much cruder and smaller and bumbling than China.
Whether it is good for Europe or not, unfortunately, but the biggest threats to the US aren't countered as much by NATO any more.

But from an American perspective, he is doing what he told voters he would - get out of wars and save money.
Ukraine is going to change nothing at midterms, probably not either way, but certainly not negatively.
There is a percentage that this really offends, maybe rightly, but they didn't vote for him and he won the popular vote.
Overly wordy critiiques are great to get the frustrations out but say you are him, how to do fix Ukraine and maintain voter base for the party. A solution, please, since I would assume you consider yourself an adult (pretend you are in the room.)

Re: The Official Politics Thread (enter at your own risk)
Ukraine held peace talks a few times without inviting Russia. They will inevitably have to meet to find a possible agreement at some point. Much like they did in the early months, but the West said don't trust Putin, he wants to invade all of Europe, you're fighting for not just your democracy but ours. Which is crazy considering Zelensky was elected on a promise to bring peace to the Donbass.
The alternative to establishing peace talks is continuing the war possibly without US funding .Even with continued US funding it doesn't seem remotely likely that Ukraine could ever push Russia out. Seeing as Zelensky is claiming most of the money never reached them, it's looking like mass corruption is the only winner, and reason to continue.

A lot of hand wringing going on by a few of you, some of you know for a fact that Trump's recent statements are unhinged, but you can't pull back, because you've spent years backing him as he winds up all the right people.
His recent statement about Ukraine not being invited to their own peace negotiations because "they shouldn't have started it" Can he literally say anything at this point and you'll believe black is white? Well not "believe" but still argue the point .
It's gone against winding up the woke brigade and trans activism at this point, all of that is a happy distraction

Re: The Official Politics Thread (enter at your own risk)
Perhaps reform can work out an agreement to ship all the migrants to Ukraine after the landslide victory in the next election. I’m sure Trump would be ok with it.
Would be a win-win all round. European Union loves diversity, British citizens get their country back before it goes bankrupt, With no benefits they’ll have to work to eat, what a concept, even those backward bastards can carry a Hod.
How about this, ship a few hundred thousand Palestinians to Ukraine get them in on the rebuild while the U S can rebuild Gaza into the Middle East riviera. There are 1.8 million Palestinians not sure how many of that number are adult males but sending the adult men only to Ukraine would be perfect. As we all know it’s only the men that are asylum seekers anyways.
As they say to the victor go the spoils. Everybody is happy. Except the Poles, which makes it even better.

You've got Zelensky saying Trump is "living in a disinformation space" but also trying to keep the US onside because he needs their support. Apparently the US wants 50% of the rare earth minerals from Ukraine.
Meanwhile the European leaders are desperately trying to make themselves look relevant by having their own meetings which nobody cares about.
US funding of this war was simply a loan. They were always going to want repayment, and it was no secret the rebuild contract was given to BlackRock.
The whole thing was a land grab for the West, to strategically weaken any threat future from Russia, and its naval fleet in the Black Sea.
If Ukraine could win, NATO would camp up there officially instead of the secret spy networks, underground command centres and Bio weapons labs the US built via CIA funding prior to the war. Then the EU could swallow it up and flood it with immigrants to replace all the dead generations of Ukrainian males and BlackRock would make a fortune.

It's a really tough one for me. (Personally, the Ukrainian community around where I grew up is super strong. And my nephew's wife is Ukrainian, she came from school before all this started but had years where she could not see her parents etc.)
Ukraine obviously has the right to self-determination and is it too Darwinian to say if it can't survive on its own, it shouldn't survive? Probably.
But there is a reason the Ukraine wasn't a part of NATO and other alliances befor this and a lot of it is because it was mess politically. And a lot of the politics have been swept under the rug, when it became the cause of Western powers.
Zelensky openly said that he didn't get almost 70% of the money sent but needs and wants more.
I am for less war in my great years and if we are going to go to war for oppressed people, we have a whole lot more work to do around the world. And people have been making themselves rich off that for year.
Probably more questions than answers, I guess.
