Ronnie Boyce RIP
Ronnie Boyce RIP
Everyone at West Ham United has been left deeply saddened by the passing Hammers legend Ronnie Boyce at the age of 82.A true Claret and Blue giant, East Ham-born Boyce joined the Club as a teenager, debuted at 17, scored the goals which took West Ham to the 1964 FA Cup final and headed the winning goal in the final at Wembley Stadium at 21, and won the European Cup Winners’ Cup at 22.Nicknamed ‘Ticker’ for his tireless midfield play, Boyce made a total of 341 appearances for the Club, scoring 29 goals, before retiring in 1972.He became a key member of manager John Lyall’s coaching staff, helping the Hammers win two further FA Cups in 1975 and 1980, and later served as both caretaker manager and chief scout, before retiring in 1995.A hugely popular figure, Boyce’s incredible contribution to West Ham United was recognised with the Club’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
Re: Ronnie Boyce RIP
His winning goal in the 1964 Cup Final was the moment when I decided West Ham would be my team. I was 11 and until then Dad had only taken me to see Spurs matches, and (unbelievably now) a 1-1 Football League draw between Barrow and Brighton. When Boyce scored Dad said "Mm, I used to teach him" (Dad was a music teacher at East Ham Grammar). So Ticker was my hero for a short while and my loyalty to the Hammers has been a bumpy ride ever since.
Re: Ronnie Boyce RIP
When I was about 14 I was fishing over a lake in Upminster and got chatting to an older fella who was fishing next to me. I spent a couple of hours in his swim putting the world to rights and he was good company.
At the end of the day my old man turned up to pick me up and when he walked into the swim exclaimed to the bloke “fucking hell ronnie boyce, hello Ronnie !” And ronnie had a good long chat with him.
brilliant memory, RIP Ronnie a lovely fella

Re: Ronnie Boyce RIP
Before my time but I knew exactly who he was because he was part of the backroom staff when we had that cracking team at the turn of the eighties and during the 1985/86 season.

Re: Ronnie Boyce RIP
Remember the goal in the mud from my MOTD West Ham Utd vhs, "Straight back by Boyce, What a goal!". Jimmy Greaves was also on the score sheet as well in that game.
Re: Ronnie Boyce RIP
Ronnie was a bit before my time but I am aware of his importance to the team. The 2 goals he got against the Mancs and the winner against Preston in the 1964 cup final. Not forgetting that goal at Maine Road in the mud against Cittee.
A fellow East Ham boy and West Ham legend RIP Ticker ⚒

Re: Ronnie Boyce RIP
He's carved out in West Ham folklore after scoring the winning goal in an FA Cup final. I've got a pic in a frame of the goal and him celebrating. I use to see his son sometimes back in the day out and about in clubs etc, can't recall his name.
RIP Ticker.

Re: Ronnie Boyce RIP
Ronnie ‘ticker’ Boyce was a true Hammers legend.
I was lucky enough as a ten year old to see him get a brace in the semi-final at Hillsborough and then a few weeks later get the winner at Wembley. That defeat of Manchester United is in the top five WHU performances I’ve seen and Ronnie was integral to that.
Ronnie could not be more different to the modern day PL player. He was modest and hard working, playing and working for his local club his whole life. He was a true inspiration.
RIP Ronnie

Re: Ronnie Boyce RIP
He made the team tick , when he wasn't playing they weren't as good. Loads of the goals West Ham scored he made some contribution, usually a one touch pass somewhere in the move.
A group of us West Ham fans were hanging around the car park at Filbert Street for a meaningless night game just before the cup final in 1964. Ronnie Boyce left the others and came to us and asked how many of us there were, went in the stand and came back with stand tickets for all of us. For me was always one of the stars of that era.

Re: Ronnie Boyce RIP
Very sorry to hear this news tonight. Ronnie's volley up at Maine Road has floated around in my head for 50+ years.
