Re: Rick Buckler has bought the farm
Thanks Swiss.
Its all about opinions. However this thread is a tribute to Rick since his passing and some of his best drumming came post All Mod Cons which is my favourite album though I play Sound Affects just as much.
Funeral Pyre was where he left his mark imho and seeing it played live was an absolute memory for me!.

True Paul Weller is a great writer. I prefered the Style Council to the later Jam stuff. And as for Wild Wood. Great Album.

Re: Rick Buckler has bought the farm
Saw a post a few weeks ago that he wasn't well.
Sad sad news.
We were at school and my mates were forming a band, the drummer Pete, used to rave about his drumming. I got it, but he wasn't Neal Peart. Pete's band did a lot better then us..
Sad news rip

Absolutely gutted. A true legend and a gentleman. Fundamental to The Jam sound.
Another boyhood hero gone..
RIP Rick one third of "the best band in the fucking world!"

Even the Sex Pistols went on TOTP so that means nothing. Sound Affects was based on Revolver and it shows. A rip off of Taxman and other Beatles shit. I preferred their early Who influence.

The best Rick Buckler vid is the one where he smashes the clock with his drumstick:

Onsideman - yeah, worth it. Mostly post Only Ones songs, but I like his later stuff anyway. Am amazed the blokes still going tbh and he does not look 72!!
Re: Rick Buckler has bought the farm
Another part of our yoof gone
As mentioned, great drummer in a great band who provided a sound track for the late 70s. And early 80s.
Shame Weller and Buckler fell out. Over money I suspect which doesnt really matter or shouldnt in tour later life. Relationships, family and friendships ate far more important.

Re: Rick Buckler has bought the farm
My first favourite band. As mentioned already, not The Jam's most popular track but his drumming in Funeral Pyre was brilliant.
I don't think he ever did make up with Paul (correct me if I'm wrong) which is a bit of a shame.
RIP one of the greats.

Re: Rick Buckler has bought the farm
Back in the late 70,s early 80,s The Jam were maybe the most iconic band of that era for me, formative years and all that and when i think of that time its almost to a Jam soundtrack such was their popularity back then.
He was 69 so not young but way too young to die if you get that! But does make you think where have the years gone?
Thanks Rick, you will live on forever in music, thanks for the soundtrack to my teenage years.
RIP

Re: Rick Buckler has bought the farm
Ahhh, shame. Not old. Was reading Weller's tribute and yea he made no mention of having seen or spoken to Rick in recent times, so sounds like a big fall out.
RIP.
