Potter Hammer Blow as Star Man Ruled Out for 8 Weeks

West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville could be sidelined for an extended period following revelations that his injury is worse than initially expected.

This news comes as a huge surprise after the club released footage over the weekend showing the £25 million summer signing fully involved in Hammers training.

However, Claret & Hugh have been informed this morning that last season’s Championship Player of the Year could be out for as long as eight weeks.

This development will be a significant blow to new West Ham head coach Graham Potter, who only managed to use Summerville for 45 minutes during his first game in the FA Cup against Aston Villa.

During his brief appearance under Potter, Summerville looked electric playing in the right wing-back role, creating the first goal of the Hammers’ new regime, which was slotted home by Lucas Paquetá.

West Ham remain hopeful the wide-man can return earlier than scheduled, but Potter is understood to be reluctant to rush anyone back too quickly.

IMHO - Nobody can assess Summerville yet - Under used and mis-used by Floppy and then been injured. Whether he turns out to be a success only time will tell but at least let the guy have a run of half a dozen games to show what he's all about.

A little. That 45 minutes against Villa was very, very good though from the RWB position. Definitely need to see more of that before going too overboard on the lad, assuming he ever laces up a pair of boots again at this rate.

I will give him a pass under Lop though, where he was used awfully but was still somewhat of a bright spark amongst the shit when we saw him, albeit stuck out on the left wing with not a lot going on around him.

Very frustrating, but at least he offered some pace, but does seem to be a bit of another case of a player getting better when he's not playing. Still a question mark over his final ball and strength etc. Reality is that the jury is still out, but been a fucking horrendous first season for him for various reasons.

Bit of a pisstake though, out for essentially three months plus with a hamstring tear. Hope that's not a sign of things to come for the kid.

Easy to avoid muscle injuries when you don’t have to sprint, but rather shuffle from left to right on your 18 yard box. 

Agree. I think we had a far better fitness record because of the lack of running of most of the team and therefore less risk of injury, aside from probably Antonio who was the one expected to cover masses of ground and spent some time out. He and Bowen were really the only two regularly doing long sprints while most of the rest of the team jogged up and down.

Wasn't too different with Lop to be fair, just that we sat higher up the field. It's all different now and the players are being stretched for the first time in months or years.

We've been relatively lucky with injuries last couple of seasons but this season they're killing us.
Always our best players just as they are hitting some form.
