Re: Potter Out
A scenario that is unfortunately plausible Thunder. He’s not Sullivan’s man, a narcissist like Sully will want him to fail because his ego is what matters most.
I hope he gets a reasonable budget. My honest opinion is I dont know if Potter can improve us enough if he gets a budget ( via sales too ) 3 or 4 additions or replacements. Get it right and its possible but at this juncture my take is the odds are against Potter even if he does get his replacements. Sullivan limiting his budget and essentially sabotaging his tenure will pretty much guarantee his failure though and it will be apparent early on next season.
Sullivan imo may as well back him though (but wont ) why? Because we know Sullivan will oversee the appointment of what is likely to be another unrmployed yesterday’s man via Salthouse who will fail too. But the chance of it unexpectedly being successful ( by accident) like the 2-3 seasons with Moyes means Sullivan wont back Bradys man.
In short, the failure of Sullivans 27 of 30 odd years of football club ownership will continue either way.

Exactly, Sullivan also won't back him. He'll just ride out next season until he can activate the break clause and have a kitty for the next manager.
Next season is already a write off, just pray there's 3 teams shitter than Potter next year. Although I'm still not convinced there's 3 teams shitter than Potter this year.Is that a fact that Sullivan didn't want Potter and won't back him in the window TC? Or is it just wild speculation?
It you look at the facts and read between the lines it's obvious.
Sullivan never rated him, thought he was just a cog in the Brighton machine. Correctly it now appears.
C&H being given details of the break clause yesterday is typical of Sullivan when he starts to undermine a manager in the hope he'll walk. He's saying he wants him out but his hands are tied until after next season.
Sullivan never backs a manager once "the process" has begun, prefering instead to store up a war chest for the next coach.
As a result Potter will get minimal support in the summer. Late deals at deadline day prices on top 6 surplus or bosmans to plug the gaps from sales and those released. Antonio and Cresswell renewed for a year.
It's already a write off.

I’m just thoroughly pissed of with watching us play negative, boring football. I thought things used to get bad under Moyes, but at least we had some attacking intent under him in some of the games.
Unless Potter can soon show that he can get us scoring goals then he can fuck right off.

Bloody hell - That's a bit negative, eh? Haven't even seen what our transfer business will be. If we get £120m for the so called Star Boy it could be the catalyst for a proper rebuild.
I mean, at least wait to see how the window goes before making such a judgement, surely?

Totally agree, I think we will be relegation fodder next season.
The last time we got relegated they put the season ticket prices up.

I have no problem with them using us as a stepping stone as long as they play well and fuck off for a profit.
When does that happen? They mostly just sulk and turn invisible after 6 months.

So, we are going to be looking at a very different side come August IMO, will that make us better (it should) will it make us more entertaining and attacking? Don't know, but I hope so.
It's going to be a long end to the season, a bit like waiting for your summer holiday that you booked in January.Good post.
And I agree - Annoys me when these managers just blatantly lie. Of course he is looking at a rebuild next season. Of course he is looking at players he wants to bring in. Just come out and say it. And to get the fans on board just come out and say 'results have not been as expected. I take the blame for that. And so I am already looking to rectify that". I cannot stand all the nicey nicey run of the mill claptrap.
And the whole thing does need changing. We are now a bad season away from being relegated. The whole attitude and ethos of the club needs changing quickly. And I think Potter needs to secure his core of players from first team squad, develop and bring through his core of youth team players and go out and buy in three or four top class players. Like you I hope the team and squad look drastically different come 1st September. The worrying thing about this is, that Potter has publicly stated previously that he felt a big contributing factor to him being unsuccessful at Chelsea, was that there were just too many transfers, in and out, in too short a time.
So does that mean we won’t see these wholesale changes to our squad that we obviously need? Are we really only 3 or 4 players away from being able to play a much more attractive style?
The summer window is going to be hugely important for him, assuming he’s still with us.
Fair point. But do we actually need 'wholesale' changes? For me, the defence is sound enough - Although I would be looking to offload Mavro and getting is someone better. Scarles and Emerson competing for LWB - Although looking likely Emerson i seeking a move back to Italy. AWB excellent.
Midfield a problem. Maybe we need two better in and two out. This is going to depend on what Potters view of it is and if he wants to set up differently. I would be looking to keep Paqueta and possibly moving Alvarez and / or Soucek out and getting one or two better in.
And we need a goalscorer.....STILL!! So for me, I do think we are maybe four top class players away from being a really good side and playing more attractive football. Some may argue its six or even more. Just depends on your view. So is four wholesale? Again, personal view.
And let's be honest, what was going on at Chelsea when Potter turned up was absolutely unique. An utter basket case of a club of which Maresca is still feeling the pain from. Not sure they can be compared.

Re: Potter Out
Wouldn't it be nice if we had a manager with charisma and style?
A manager who, after a shit season, had the personality and gravitas to persuade the best players to stay and build a good quality, competitive team around, to encourage new, exciting players to join the club with the best of the academy players having a real pathway into the first team?
Wouldn't it be nice not to hear the best players being hawked around to finance a "major rebuild"?
Wouldn't it be nice to either be linked with good players and get them in rather than the usual noise which inevitably falls flat?
Wouldn't it be nice to have a manager who comes in and not only talks about understanding the fans but actually sets about playing the style of football we crave?
Wouldn't it be nice if the environment at West Ham had players like Kudus; Paqueta; Bowen; Todibo; talking about how much they want to do for this club in the future rather than the platitudes after another shit loss about how much better they could have been or how they have underperformed either individually or collectively to date?
I agree that Potter is not responsible for all of these concerns; however he has done very little to dispel the general miasma during his short tenure.

Re: Potter Out
Not much more that can be said.
But its very much clearly a balance issue. Defence needed fixing and Potter has done that but clearly to the detriment of scoring goals. Potter needs to take the brake off and instil a more attacking style to make the most of the possession we have. But something tells me that he doesn't have that in him. As others have said, our style currently is simply not workable if we concede first as the other team sits in and watches us pass it sideways and backwards.
Its disappointing that Potter's only improvement is to make us look more solid defensively. Under Lope we did look like conceding each time our opponent attacked - Now that's clearly not the case - But we all expected much more. It's hugely disappointing and frustrating.
As for sacking him - For me that's just daft talk. We aren't getting relegated and I genuinely believe Potter deserves a window and a pre-season to try and get the team re-ignited. Then we see where we go from there.
The fundamental problem though is and always will be the dwarf and his utter incompetency at running a football club.
