So... Bournemouth at home. Potter beginning to underwhelm.

The sort of game suddenky West Ham pull out a performance...but I don't see it. Iraola one of the leagues current shiny coveted things....Potter looking tarnished by his time at the bowl already.

Prediction...0-2 to Bournemouth.

Yeah, this is definitely the way for me. Kudus is wasted on the left. He's much better as a 10 and can carry the ball forward from deeper central areas. Paqueta links up well with Emerson and is less liable to give the ball away in dangerous areas when played at LW.

I wouldn't mind us dropping the 3/5 back line.
Classic 451 and 442*

.......................Areola
Wan Bissaka Todibo Kilman Scarles
Bowen Soucek Alvarez Prowse Kudus*
......................Fullkrug*

If Kluivert is out, this should be a 2-0 win

I hope we don't have to watch that posh looking twat JWP again passing sideways and backwards like an 8 year old, then standing over set pieces like he's the governor before fucking it up.

300 passes sideways, 200 backwards, 5 shots on goal, 2 on target, 0 goals.

Away win. Semenyo gets one, Bournemouth 2.

Todibo Mavropanos Kilman

Wan Bissaka Alvarez Soucek Scarles

Bowen Füllkrug Paqueta/Kudus

Subs: Fabianski, Coufal, Cresswell, JWP, Soler, Guilherme, Ferguson, Paqueta/Kudus, Emerson
Personally, if be looking to go:
Areola

Wan Bissaka Todibo Kilman Scarles

Soucek

Alvarez       Paqueta

Bowen            Fullkrug            Kudus
We don't really have a proper 6 at the moment, but Soucek at least has the discipline to play the position in a limited way and is valuable for set pieces at both ends.

Alvarez is best being left to play the headless chicken pitbull role as he doesn't have the discipline to play at 6 or the pace to cover.

Paqueta is the only craft we have in midfield, so you have to find a way to get him in, regardless his failings.

Fullkrug has shown when fit he's actually a very good player.

Kudus and Bowen remains out best outlets.

At at the back, it's slim pickings in the centre, and a toss up between Scarles and Emerson.

I get the argument about including Paqueta here because his possible replacements don't offer anything like his potential. But I maintain his failings when he is at his worst are too costly to the team. I would bench him for this. I'd go with Fullkrug up front, Ferguson is just a waste of time judging by the amount of chances he has fluffed. Mavropanos shouldn't not even be on the bench. If he is being played I think he was better at right back than CB but we have much better options there.

A left-field suggestion for a target man is Soucek. I know this has been said before and scoffed at each time, but he is one of the few players who knows where the net is. Considering his limitations elsewhere I would like to see Potter at least give this a go one day. Can't be worse than starting Ferguson there as he did against Wolves.

Games against Bournemouth are often high scoring, could be an interesting game this, but I think Bournemouth are going to get their way.

Good and realistic comments from all. Mex is most probably right that “who scores first” wins. We dont do comebacks and have not for a long while.

Was listening to a pre-Christmas interview with Michael Laudrup the other day and, interestingly, he said he doesn't understand why so many Premier League and La Liga teams who spend big money don't shoot more often. It was a pointed reference to teams that attempt tin-pot versions of Pep football without the quality that Man City generally have.

He basically said: "It's simple - you can't win games if you don't shoot more often. Clubs spend a fortune on forwards, and spend all week training them to hit shots and finish from all angles. Then it gets to Saturday and they ask everybody to pass it when they're ten yards from goal."

If somebody like Laudrup, who was an ornate player at the best of times, thinks that about modern football then I'd tend to listen!

Back at the bowl today, hoping for a change that may never come.

Not expecting miracles, just want to see a higher tempo added to Potter's possession-based approach. Execute the inevitable passing across the back three a quicker, force Bournemouth out of position with quicker changes of pace into midfield and the final third. Don't let them settle. Don't make it so that the people in row Z (somewhere in Ilford) can see the move breaking down before it does.

And let's fucking test their goalkeeper anywhere near the box. If we go another 90 minutes with two shots on the board, then this is all going to end badly for Potter.

Tempo. Shots on goal.

Yes, I think we will revert to defensive midfield and more possession. Hate to say, but it'll be the old rather obvious who scores first thing. If we can score first we have a good chance, but we'll lose if we concede first.

I suspect (hope) we will start today as we started the second half on Tuesday, and not the first. Potter knows he needs a performance today and that the natives are restless.

I'm not reading much into the Cherries poor form, they will still be confident and if anything they are due a win.

Remarkably, there are posters on here who think that Mavropanos should be retained and Cresswell should be offered another extension. Let that sink in

We are the 4th worst team / squad and on current form perhaps worse than that.

Thats the harsh reality. Bournemouth are having an awful run too but have a better team, better squad suited to the demands of the Premiership. We may be just the team they need to play right now.

We cannot press effectively ( too slow ) and really struggle with being pressed.  We have not progressed in 3 seasons ( due to inadequate/inappropriate recruitment) and are still a squad best suited to Moyes low block and fast, direct counters.  The changes we made in personnel actually took away one weapon we had which was set pieces.  The attempt to progress to a more entertaining style ( which subsequent managers hired attempting possession based tactics ) has failed so far and made us less effective im terms of results.

All 3 managers have failed to arrest the slide in results since the early 2022/23 season.

Potter is between a “rock and a hard place”. The best approach imo is to resort to playing with a low block and use fast counters, more direct and less passes to get the ball to our forwards to run in behind like we did successfully under Moyes for 2 games. Possession of 30% or less.

But Potter, like Moyes and Lop have been told by the owners that a key requirement is to play a more entertaining style and us on the front foot and as mentioned, keeping the ball and building up thru passing.

Against most teams, with our squad, it is far likelier it fails. Its why we have been more successful away where we sit deep in numbers, 5 at the back, 3 in midfield and take 1 of our few chances but concede a lot less.

If Potter tries to get us attacking and pushing forward  too much and trying to keep possession at the back and even risking 4 at the back, I see us losing and conceding at least 2.

West Ham 1-2 Bournemouth

I don't see how we stop them scoring, they are quick, play at a high tempo with some very good players. We will def have to score at least two to win, and we don't look like scoring many.

A draw or a loss for me and more pressure on Potter.
