“He would sleep in the car” – Former West Ham man reveals story about player’s lifestyle at Hammers
Mido spent a spell on loan at West Ham United during the 2009/10 Premier League season.
He didn’t make too much of an impact, playing just nine times for the Hammers.
A revelation from ex-West Ham midfielder Valon Behrami suggests the Egyptian clearly enjoyed himself during that stint even if he didn’t score goals.
Behrami spoke to RSI Sport about his time with the London side and how things were for the club back then.
He highlighted Mido as an interesting character, revealing he would often sleep in his car.
Behrami said, as relayed by Goal Italia: “He would sleep in the car after the evenings,” referring to the former Egypt man’s lifestyle.
“At West Ham there was ‘King’ Mido, he was at the end of his career, the last years when you push to the end. The coach was [Avram] Grant – a libertine, even if you were late he turned a blind eye.”
“I saw Mido arrive every morning with the chauffeur in this Rolls Royce, but he was already at the pitch, it was the first car at the pitch. One day I parked nearby, I looked inside and there he was, sleeping with the seats stretched out.”
Behrami revealed Mido would party till 6am in the morning and quickly get to the training ground.
“After parties until six, it took an hour to get to the sports center by car. At 7, he was there sleeping in the parking lot.”
Considering the ex-forward’s time at West Ham, it does seem as if football wasn’t always his first priority.
Despite an impressive first season at Tottenham he didn’t impress during his time in England, despite also being given chances by Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic.
Unfortunately, he joined a long list of players who couldn’t really fulfill their true potential.
