Re: Potter Out
360 dont disagree that the system needs to suit the players and that’s part of what Im saying too ( not very well mind
). That the squad is still only suited to Moyesball style low block, low possession, direct counter attack football. Moyes tried to get us playing better with the ball a bit in his last season but it failed ( he reverted back to what he knew later on and got some results ), Lopetegui and Potter have both tried and failed to get West Ham playing a possession style. It all traces back to fan unrest (rightly so ) with 30% possession every game, low entertainment value that became a problem once teams wised up to Moyes tactics in the league and we stopped winning ( finished 14th too). Rice leaving made things worse because we failed spectacularly at replacing him and generally getting in players with pace, physicality, stamina to play any other way. Sullivan, I would imagine, stressed the need to change the style under Moyes in response to fan unrest and would have been clear to both Loppy and Potter that this was what they had to do too when they interviewed for the job.
No one realised, or has realised so far, that you need a different profile of player to be good at keeping the ball, pressing, beating the opposition press, withstanding their press and playing out from the back, thru midfield and making chances. And these types of players, are in high demand (expensive)unless you’re analytics and recruitment are like Brighton, Bournemouth etc and you unearth the “hidden gems” in young, upcoming players.
It why we have regressed. We are where we were 3 seasons or so ago. Still needing a successful rebuild but now without Rce who was singlehandedly masking deficiences of pace, stamina in midfield.

Tottenham are shite. And you know they are when they're supporters are admitting it . Most blinkered fanbase by far . I've no confidence in our lot taking advantage mind . This team shoots itself in the foot constantly.

Still not convinced it’s a player problem in terms of actual ability.
it’s like when Chelsea bought Caciedo. They thought they were getting an instant midfield monster. Took about a year of coaching and adapting to get him back to where he was.
some of the problem with West Ham with tons of our managers is the reliance on individuals rather than systems and coaching. When the individual goes the whole thing falls apart. carol, Arnie, payet etc.. even Antonio.
system before players.
or create system that suits players you have.
either way, it’s the manager.
Steve Bruce vs Eddie Howe. Joe Linton shit striker under Bruce, powerhouse midfielder under Howe. Same squad. Different results.

Re: Potter Out
I don’t think it matters to me if we beat spurs or not.
I think it only matters if we dominate spurs.
potters job is to coach the team to play better football. I think we would have all accepted our current position and the losses and draws if we saw signs of a new style or play.
And that’s the problem. It’s not really about us being 17th. It’s us being 17th and looking like we are overall a worse team because he hasn’t figured out any of our problems.
and he has no excuse for it.
that’s why he kicked off in the press conference. Because he knew he’d been completely found out.

Potter only goes if we're facing relegation, if he looks safe in 17th with a gap between us and 18th he's meeting minimum requirements. Remember Sullivan moaning about the £50k coach fee to Everton? Staying up is the only thing that matters to him and he'll invest what it takes to retain his spot at the top table even if that's a bare minimum investment in the most boring football around.
If you really want Potter gone you have to want us to be so shit we're getting relegated. Sophie's choice! That's exactly what some said about Lop and he got sacked, and off the back of better results than Potter. And what the fuck is Sophie's choice??
Fair point about Lopetegui.
Sophie's Choice is a film, might have been based on a true story, I don't know, where Sophie has to choose which of her two children lives and which one dies.

Re: Potter Out
Alf, given how shit you think our squad is, surely we need to get Lopetegui back in? He was performing miracles having us in 14th and looking much better than the bottom 5, which included Wolves & Everton.
I mean, we recently got outplayed at home by Southampton, the worst team I've ever seen (unless they're playing Potter's West Ham).
Come back Jules, all is forgiven.

Re: Potter Out
Imagine being a 76 year old businessman, and you pay Cock Piss £4 or £5 million to run the team. Cock Piss is highly regarded and has a fancy degree. You're not going to be on the phone every 5 minutes asking why coufal came on instead of Cresswell, and why has our January loan striker still got moobs and can't hit a barn door after 4 months of training. No one's got time for it, fuck that. He has delegated it to potter, he'll have to get on with it. No one is stepping in unless relegation looms.

Re: Potter Out
The pressure will increase I suspect as even Spurs ressies are strong and too fast for us if we try to play any way but Moyesesque low / mid block and counyer tactics. They will sit back, wait to dispossess one of our forwards or turgid central midfielders or waltz past whoever might be trying to cover before outwitting Kilman or Mavro. Alternatively just have to press us high as we slowly try to keep possession in our own half before Areola or a defender or central midfielder is forced to launch it long and back to them.
Only way we get a result is to play like an away team and play counter attack football. Its all our current squad is suited to. We only look half decent when the opposition plays on the proverbial “front foot” which is why we away games we have been better albeit lost the last 2 or 3 too
The squad is so unbalanced and lacking athletes, pace and physicality esp in centre mid and without a central forward target that can play 90 mins . Its a squad that is relegation bounnd despite containing 4 or so high quality individual players.
Squad management, and the associated recruitment, begun by Moyes / Sullivan but aided and abettted by Steidten and Loppy , especially since Rice went, has been nothing short of disasterous.

Re: Potter Out
Sullivan isn't a West Ham supporter, his interest in the club is financial. To that end, as long as we are in the top flight, he is succeeding (in his view, not ours) so he's not going to sell up just because he is unpopular. His failings would be a concern if he was an employee like Brown was, but as the majority shareholder he doesn't answer to anyone unless the other shareholders mob up.

Russ nails it. Sullivan is to blame. Who would like to go back to the days before he rocked up. We must all try to outlive him. Its the only way things have a chance of getting better. Not saying they will but nothing is changing until he is 6ft under.

That might not be as daft as you think clint fella, with Lop now off the payroll (the Qatar gig starts immediately) that may well be a consideration (if Potter fucks up the last 4 games).

They're both really fucking shit at their jobs.
But Sullivan has fuck all to do with a supposed top level coach being unable to get a tune out of this group of players after months of working with them.
Why is it strange?
Ultimately, the mess we are in is down to Sullivan. And the reasons for that have been said on here hundreds of times.
The rot started the year we was in the Europa League and spent zero pence in January. I said to my mate at the time, that transfer window will not just cost us the Europa League, it could destabilise us for the nest three to four seasons. How fucking right I was.
The last decade has seen a slow decay and erosion of what West Ham is and should be. That's on Sullivan. An ageing and misbalanced squad is on Sullivan. A stadium not fit for purpose. A third manager in a year now floundering. Apparently no money to spend in summer. Fans and club completely disconnected. It's all on Sullivan.
Potter is a symptom. Sullivan is the disease.
