WHUFC West Ham vs Spurs | PL | 4.5.25 | Predictions and Match Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

There won't have been too many matches this season where we go in as relatively strong favourites with this bookies, but the game this weekend is one.

Big Ange and his mates come to town, in a game that is most notable (as a footballing spectacle) for being between two teams that can lay claim to having had the most disappointing seasons across all of European football.

Few would have predicted either would be languishing where they are before a ball was kicked, but we go into this game as the 'worst of the rest' with the relegation places sewn up (thank fuck) and all that's left to play for the worst kind of bragging rights.

Let's hope at the end of this one we can be claiming whilst we might be shit, we're not as shit as the Lilleywhites from North London.

Team I'd like to see:
Areola

Wan Bissaka Mavropanos Todibo Scarles

Soucek Alvarez Paqueta

Bowen Fullkrug Kudus

I'd have Kilman out for this one. He's made some high profile cock ups in recent weeks, and Mavropanos is deserving of the start. JWP has been an ever present non-entity so I'd have the fight brought by Alvarez back for this one in a game where we're likely to be on the counter, with Paqueta looking his best in games when he's dropped back to make the play.  Soucek remains our second most likely goal threat so has to play, and the forward line looks so much more functional with the big German in.

It feels an easy team to pick, with the only real conundrum Scarles or Emerson...but I'd bring the home grown talent in for this one...quite simply it will mean more to him.

Prediction: 1-1

Feels like this will be a game with added meaning this season purely for the lack of other interest. Spurs of course are still fighting in Europe, but whilst their fans claim it's our cup final not theirs, they always seem pretty bothered when we fuck them over.

But continuing the theme of an unsatisfactory season, I'm going for an unsatisfactory result that helps no one, leaves ol' Cock Piss firmly mired in the critics sights, and sees us continue to limp towards the 24/25 finish line.

Back injury ? Hmmmm

Just in the ground at 1.20pm & crowd as bare as I’ve seen 40mins from kick off
Hopefully there won’t be the usual massive crowd at the turnstiles then. The management of fans getting into the ground is fucking appalling. But then again how hard is it to wave a phone at a wall. Apparently very hard for a lot of people.

clearly some shit going on with Alvarez. Guy can just fuck off in the summer if he’s going to be a cսnt.

He has apparently been a cսnt for some time. And with Soler and Rodriguez nailed on leaving, Potter hasn't got a selection problem in the middle. Unfortunately we are bound to play 5 at the back, unless he goes nuts and plays a nidnor two alongside jwp and Paqueta

Tbh, how the fuck could the board manage us into this. Circus Sullivan 🎪🤡
Exactly. He will be no loss either given his absolute lack of contribution all season. Hopefully we can recoup some of what we paid. Strong chance every single CM at the club is gone this summer I think. Maybe JWP sticks but there’s not really any point in selling him unless he wants to go back to Southampton.

Paqueta and Soucek centre mid pivot?

Hmmm, thats going to see us overrun in midfield.

This is not going to end well is my instinct.

Seriously, what's his option?
Playing Soler in midfield instead of Cresswell in defence
that’s the option

How do you know its Alvarez being a cսnt and not Potter?
I’m choosing to believe the murmurings about Alvarez’s supposed attitude problem.

Five at the back probably because he had to drop the useless JWP and now wants Cresswell free kicks...

Nothing to suggest Potter can get anything more out of this squad although I would agree Alvarez has to play. He does compete physically ( too much ) and despite being too slow will not be as meek as JWP and Soucek or Paqueta at the base of midfield. I would start Alvarez and Paqueta as the deeper lying central midfielders but Potter’s obsession with controlling possession without being able to progress it thru the middle will see JWP starting again in front of a back 4.

We have not been dominant for years at home and have not played well at the LS for a long time going back to Moyes 2nd season. Its the nature of the squad, age, lack of pace and athleticism to cover the pitch etc.  We cannot stretch or break teams down or cope with counters when we inevitably turn the ball over.  The transition away from Moyesball, low block, started and failed under Moyes, due to catastrophically bad recruitment, got worse when the only mobile central midfielder we had, Rice, was sold and replaced with Alvarez who is one paced and played a chunk of his career as a CB.  Not beung able to field a central striker for most of this season and a lot of last season has added to our problems.

Spurs just need to sit deep, numbers behind the ball and not concede and we will inevitably over commit or lose possession.  Alternatively, like Southampton did, they will outplay our central midfield even if we have 3 in there ( which is almost mandatory for the aforementioned reasons).

1-3, 0-1, 1-2 defeat.  The structural issues in our squad mean we have to have a perfect day, no mistakws and all players giving everything which I have not seen for a long time.

Potter will get all the blame. Dont get me wrong he deserves it if he picks the lightweight JWP every game and does not start Fullkrug.  Oh and Soucek bless him, will give everything and hopefully notch a goal but will be chasing shadows as usual.
