Thing is that's it's mainly the younger generation that see this cashless drive as convenient and want to go around tapping their iPhones around. They are far too trusting and stupid having been brain washed by tv and social media. Whenever you make a point of telling them that they will end up having their lives controlled I swear half of them want it as they are incapable of thinking for themselves. Whatever governments do they cannot stop us trading stuff. Basically that's all money is. A thing you can trade for items or services.

You can't even keep wads of cash under the floorboards now because they change the notes every few years and you have to exchange/declare them when you go change them to keep them valid. India has been doing a lot of this recently in an attempt to force unaccounted savings back into the economy. Small ingots of gold/silver are probably the best security bet - change up and back as and when needed

"It’s a mixed picture really. No problem with paying for dinner with a couple of 100 euro notes in Holland but show one in a supermarket and they’ll look at you like you are Pablo Escobar. Most property transactions, user-to-user car sales and pretty much any second hand machinery still must have anything up to 100% cash components in most of Europe. In rural areas, the same notes circulate around the economy for years and banks are there only because you don’t want to be sitting on too much cash straight after a bigger transaction for security reasons. And while there are street markets, farmers, coaches, prostitutes and drug dealers around, cash will still be welcome even though you can always settle over the phone …"

"When we eventually go cashless (and we will), the decision on what you spend your money on will no longer be yours. The choice of how much meat, petrol, airline tickets, booze and fags will be decided by those who ' know what's good for us' Dark days ahead."

"Sand Iron Spot on. I'm sick of the growing 'card only' and 'you need to download this app' SHIT. And I swear that far less time was spent waiting in queues in shops, when they were cash only. There is usually someone with a problem with their mobile trying to make a payment, where something or other isn't working."

"It is getting difficult with cash though. My bank will not allow anyone to pay cash into my account other than me. And it limits how much cash I can pay into it. If I keep the cash there are fewer and fewer companies that will accept it. Not the end yet, but it's coming."

"If the public carried cash we wouldn’t have to worry about the above bollox. Why are the public walking into a cashless society? Are they really that stupid? The only ones to gain by that are the banks, tax and vat man. Banks are sticking it up us left right and centre. More and more small businesses are getting screwed with the added costs on transactions. Then you’ve got the multi millions in tax and vat that they never had prior to covid. tradesmen can no longer do a small job for readies, every penny is now accountable for. How are kids going to learn the value of money? They’ve got no chance without using cash. People are over spending on debit and credit cards, they’ve lost their inhibitions when spending, it doesn’t feel so bad tapping your card on a night out then going out with cash in your bin knowing you’ve spent more then you wanted when you get home. It’s costing loose change charities millions every year, how many on here can honestly say they put loose change in a charity box nowadays? This cashless society is a massive problem, we won’t be far off the Chinese social credit system the way it’s going. Madness."

At what age are you incapable of dealing with cashless payments? There's a lot of talk about older people not being able to cope. Just curious when that kicks in.

Yeah Covid gave retailers and venues the excuse they needed to refuse to handle cash. The government should make it law that a cash alternative has to be offered. A lot of older people don't like to use cashless payments and it is not without its issues as we are seeing now From a vendors point of view it's great of course as faster transactions no need to cash up or go to the bank and cuts out staff calculation errors or hand in the till situations. We don't see those savings passed on to the consumer of course. Fullers pubs are amongst the worst offenders for refusing cash for no good reason. Not only that the one near Wembley stadium not only refuses cash but doesn't even sell any cash ales What kind of pub is that .

"I'm a firm believer that there needs to be a robust push-back in favour of cash. The banks are basically having a bubble charging us for every cashless transaction while gathering our data and selling that on as well. A lot to be said for as many barter arrangements as possible at the micro level, even local currencies as long as there is no transaction fee."
