WHUFC Ipswich Vs West Ham | PL | 25.5.25 | End of Season Predictions and Match Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

So...finally this drab shitter of a season draws to a close. Away at the Tractor Boys to wrap up.

Lopetegui...a blinking incoherent mentalist. Potter...like the monotone Geography teacher in the worn out grey blazer...uninspiring , and just dull.  Sullivan as ever the goblin at large, making success by design an impossibility

So good fucking riddance 24/25...on to what almost inevitably will be a relegation battle next season. But first, let's turn over this mob.

Prediction: 1-2 West Ham...Guilherme off the mark. Fullkrug to score and then give Potter the bird. Kilman own goal to compound his form drop off in the second half.

What say the rest of you fucktards? COYI!

we've moved on from that ages ago despite last summer we signed a £40m average CB worth half that. A plodding CM who's been useless and a £27m overweight German far too slow for the premier league.

But apart from that!
All involved in those transfers are now sacked. I'm no fan of sullivan, but he didnt foist kilman onto us. Lopetegui knew him and wanted him and the board backed the manager, i dont remember anyone complaining at the time as he was young and english. Rodriguez was a free, and will be gone. Fullkrug, down to steidten i would imagine, and the board backed their technical director. None were involved with sullys favourite agents, or callum wilson jonjo shelvey types. Everyone wants the manager to be backed financially without interference until it goes wrong, and then its the fault of the guy who signed the cheque.

Sullivan pooh poohs it because he doesn't have the vision to understand it, and then gets Callum Wilson, Jonjo Shelvey, and a stack of old razzle magazines for his collection from one of his mates and flushes another tonne of money down the toilet in big wages and transfer money we'll never ever recoup.

But we've moved on from this type of thing a while ago now. The last signing like that was prob Ings, but he was a good idea at the time. And what about Dawson?
Last summer we signed AWB summerville kilman, none of whom are a jonjo shelvey. Rodriguez was prob signed as a favour for lopetegui, and is likely to leave anyway. Ferguson was a Ioan that unfortunately didn't work out, but he's 20.

So no need to get knickers in a twist, it's like some are hoping for disaster at every turn.
It's not really knickers in a twist, but you can bet your bottom dollar Sullivan will mess in whatever strategy the staff try to implement, as he always does. Sometimes it's not so bad if you get an AWB, but Ings is the counterpoint. And Ings was absolutely not a good idea at the time. Everyone could see he was woefully suited to the rest of the squad and Moyes' tactics.

Yup it's going to be a reset. It needs to be really. We have a very poor patchwork squad with some pretty poor players and some who are ok but just not fit for the purpose we need them for, and some who just want out.
I absolutely don't envy those who have to mastermind this. On the plus we can hopefully clear out a lot of dead wood, slash the wage bill and bring in some decent money for those players actually worth it. I'd take the approach of 'everyone other than Bowen is available for the right price', and then work on getting younger and more athletic replacements, whether that's looking at players falling out of Chelsea or Man City's systems, the top talent in the championship or young players from abroad. You'll need to mix in some level of experience with all that of course to meld and hold it together. No European football but we should still be able to attract some decent talent if we are clever about it. We also have to be comfortable with signing 'nobodies', which has served those clubs which have leapfrogged us so well.

It's a mammoth task and it's probably going to take another underwhelming season or two to get into a good place but short term pain for long term gain has to be the way to get us out of this funk. I hope Sullivan doesn't get itchy feet over it.

If there is a half decent player up for grabs with us and a few other clubs in the running (say Delap as a rough example).  What makes us more attractive then the likes of Forest, Everton, Brighton, Spurs etc

The uncertainty around our big names like Kudus Paqueta Alvarez etc is enough alone to make players wait and then probably get a better offer elsewhere.

Yeah i think everyone will be deflated and disappointed come August. We all know we need alot of players but we arent in a very strong position to achieve what we need to.

Money seems tight, our best players want out making us less attractive to new signings, we are one of few teams not in europe, the manager is about as inspiring as polystyrene and even if we can get around all those barriers.......Sullivan probably wont sign the deal off if one of his bent agents aint involved.

Expect way more outgoings than incomings is my feeling.

I think so- and what you've written is my exact worry with how this summer might turn out. Potter (and Macauley and Noble) want some young players a la the blueprint which has been proven an overwhelming success at Brighton (and I guess is starting to at Chelsea now someone has told Bohely to calm the fuck down and stop buying everyone with two legs) and some of those other upwardly mobile clubs, and Sullivan pooh poohs it because he doesn't have the vision to understand it, and then gets Callum Wilson, Jonjo Shelvey, and a stack of old razzle magazines for his collection from one of his mates and flushes another tonne of money down the toilet in big wages and transfer money we'll never ever recoup.

I think he has more of a chance playing through the middle for England than getting above Saka and all of Chelsea's wingers in the team.

But as said below, probably pissing in the wind this season regardless of who played where

I like Kudus, I think there is a top player in there but I am not sure he will get back to his best with us. Certainly not sure if Potter is the man to reignite him. If a bid of 70m plus comes in be hard to say no won't it?

Bowen played through the middle and he loses his England place. Thats the biggest problem here. He's already competing with Saka, moving him middle, no chance.
It's funny how one sided these left footed right wingers are nowadays. What is it about that type of player that seems not be able to play anywhere else?

Saka is the only one I know that can play equally good in multiple positions.

I think Kudus was bought mainly to flip him on for a profit after 1-2 seasons anyway. And to be fair if we make a profit on him this summer then job done. Reinvest it in a couple of young players and hopefully continue the cycle. It's at least a sound and sustainable strategy which should ensure money actually comes in through player sales, provided the recruitment is sound and Sullivan doesn't shit all over it as per usual by 'knowing better' and buying a bunch of 28-30 year old players against his manager's wishes who are going to ultimately be bad business and money down the shitter yet again.

I wouldn't have started Kudus ahead of Bowen, but i also would've tried to get the best out of both players. I don't think Potter has got the best out of either of them to be honest, Bowen has played as a right sided striker a lot, not as a winger, and for a chunk of the season, I thought he was absolute rubbish. Not blaming the player, like I'm not blaming Kudus.

Let's hope this manager can work out a way of getting the very best out of Bowen, we need a striker who starts home & away, and hope he brings in a left sided attacker, or uses Summerville there if he's fit. Anyone confident, other than twoleftbraincells?

Yeah, I got what your point was. I had already brought up the point that Kudus' poor form was likely down to him being played out of position. Just think that the decision to sacrifice Kudus in favour of Bowen might not have been the best choice. Not that it matters really. We were always going to have a shit season with the two managers we got lumbered with.

It wasn't a direct comparison i asked for, I asked how would Bowen perform over a whole season on the left wing, goals and assist wise? Nowhere near as well as on the left. No question.

To be honest, I don't think Bowen has had a particularly great season by his own standards. His goal return has been good, but he's had a season of moments, rather than consistently good play.

We're going to regret letting a talent like Kudus leave, unless we get really top money.

Agree with your point, but to be honest I reckon Bowen would have performed much better there than Kudus has. Bowen's dribbling is all about close control and he can do that anywhere on the pitch, whereas Kudus needs space to run into so out on the left he ends up heading away from goal, not towards it. Bowen has a better eye for where his team mates are as well and I expect he would still create chances on the left but would obviously score a lot less.

It's a bit surprising that 3 managers now have preferred to waste Kudus there than try Bowen out on the left instead.

Fair point. But I would add his sulky sullen demeanour after scoring yesterday. And perhaps the dressing room tantrum with Lop although we don't know the full details. The cap seems to fit.

Yep his confidence is clearly shot, he looks desperate to succeed in most games.. Tries too much undoubtedly, but then most times there's fuck all in front of him

I feel Potter is happy to trade players like him for the likes of JWP... Who's gonna get us off our seats ffs.

Maybe there is a touch of arrogance. However, I would say one of his biggest problems this season has been his  lack of confidence. Last season he played with more freedom, but this season he has often hesitated and lost his momentum.

Maybe he isn’t the best at tracking back. But I don’t think he lacks work rate going forward.

As for being petulant, there is a difference between doing something petulant and being a petulant person. He was frustrated against Spurs and lost his head. It’s harsh to label him over a one off incident.
