Re: Best War Films
Don't know, but Hacksaw Ridge was exceptional ''I've never been so wrong about someone in all my life''.
Apocalypse Now for the atmospheric, haunting scenes, plus Marlon Brando.
Special mention to the brilliant First Blood, he had his own war and he only wanted something to eat.

Re: Best War Films
Before Full Metal Jacket in 1987 there was The Boys in Company C from 1978, both great movies and the first half of both movies very similar with the boot camp, R Lee Ermey is a drill Sergent in both, appears about 2.30m into this clip in the same vein as FMJ, the Latino Drill Seargent is great in this as well
Both would be in my top 5 that's for sure, Come and See is also top draw as is All Quiet on the Western Front, We Were Soldiers would round out my top 5

Overwhelming majority of war films are set in 20th century. A lot of older history not very well represented
.
What are you on about? Star Wars was set a long, long time ago.

Re: Best War Films
All the below are great films and I loved Zulu, but for me, although not historically accurate in any shape or form "Where Eagles Dare" is my favourite. Just loved Burton and Eastwood in an action flick.
Best cameo in a war film though goes to Del and Rodney in "The Eagle Has Landed".,

Re: Best War Films
No Lawrence of Arabia or Bridge on the River Kwai? Someone doesn't like David Lean.
Ice Cold in Alex.
Kelly's Heroes.
Saving Private Ryan first ten minutes, anyway),
All Quiet on the Western Front.
Went the Day Well?
Yes to Zulu and The Guns of Navaronne (and Carry On Up the Khyber)
and yes, of course, The Dambusters is the best.
