"Sport Bible New report on Lucas Paqueta's spot-fixing charges reveals how much of next season West Ham star can play There has been an update on Paqueta's case. Alex Brotherton Lucas Paqueta will be free to play for West Ham for most of next season despite facing spot-fixing charges. Paqueta has been charged by the Football Association with four separate instances of spot-fixing. The 28-year-old stands accused of deliberately getting himself booked during four Premier League matches. It is one of the most serious cases of spot-fixing involving a top-flight player in England, and could land Paqueta with a lengthy ban. However, the Brazil international can continue to play until the disciplinary process has been completed. According to The Times, the outcome of the process could be delayed until the end of the 2024-25 season or beyond. That is due to the complexity of the case; Paqueta's lawyers say it will take many months to secure all the witness statements and relevant information they need for their defence. That's because the case spans three countries - England, Brazil and Spain - and involves a large number of people. The charges allege that Paqueta got himself booked during matches against Leicester City, Aston Villa, Leeds United and Bournemouth over the past two seasons so that “one or more persons” could profit financially. The investigation that preceded the charges took eight months. In September 2023, Brazilian outlet Globo reported that suspicious gambling patterns were identified in Brazil relating to Paqueta being booked against Aston Villa in March that year. The bets were reportedly made using West Ham's shirt sponsor Betway, via accounts belonging to people linked to Paqueta. The FA initially gave the player until June 3 to respond to the charges, but his lawyers were granted an extension. English football's governing body has refused to put a timescale on the case. Paqueta has been linked with a move to Brazilian giants Flamengo this summer, but this latest development will give encouragement to new West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui that he can use the midfielder this season."

Re: Paqueta - Latest news
He was due to be sold to Man City after that Bournemouth game for something around £80m … sue for that
Imagine he was going to double his wages … sue for what he has missed out on over 2 years
At the time of the charge wasn’t Prince William President of the FA?
Sue him personally
This has got beyond a joke

I'd imagine their people are desperately looking for anything they can possibly find to nail on him.
100% this. Not only are the club looking for transfer fees but he would claim to have lost endorsements and sponsorships. How can the FA afford to lose?
So what to do? Can he be sold off to a South American club? or are all transfer dealings on hold pending the outcome of the case? Could be a lengthy and difficult case for the club to start against the FA. We're screwed in the short term.

This. It’s become a saga now. What could be the reason to delay that was supposed to happen and what legal grounds have they got for holding up the career of a player and the progress of a club?
Even if the player is guilty, West Ham are not, and they’re hurting the club by dithering.

Joke.
It's cruel for the player and it's shit for us.This has got all the signs of the authorities not wanting to lose face. Nothing to do with being right or wrong; all to do with being seen to be right.
They bottle this one, you can bet Manchester City's lawyers will be all over this case like a bad rash.
For the media, it'll me more "Tevez's goal at Old Trafford 100% saved us from relegation, no matter what else happened that day".
My thoughts exactly. It's probably not leading to a comfortable place for the FA to be in (i.e. they lose) and they don't want to deal with the ramifications of that. (i.e. likely having to pay a shed load of damages) I'd imagine their people are desperately looking for anything they can possibly find to nail on him.
In the meantime though we are stuck with a player who is clearly affected by all this and clearly no longer wants to be here. We don't know if we can/have to replace him or not or even what sort of fee we could expect for him. Certainly not the 85 million (IIRC) we would have been due previously, so the FA have cost us that and god knows what they've cost him in potential earnings, and it's just hanging over yet another transfer window.

Well, that's more plausible that "the authorities" taking covert action against West Ham because the oiky little barrow boys had the audacity to win a trophy and then seemed on the verge of roughing up the Big 6 media-friendly cartel in the PL/CL.

Re: Paqueta - Latest news
I agree Gary, Betway is crap. I started an account with them because they sponsor West Ham. Also got the 25 quid joining gift, promptly won handsomely as I correctly bet we would finish in the top 6 only to find the winnings were half theirs as the gift was some fictional money that wasn't really mine. So I have this "money" with them that I try and use to bet on the season and FA cup, which I do twice a year, but every time I have to go through the crap chat bot thing to unlock the account which they keep freezing due to inactivity. And that is not easy as it is usually a nightmare just to find the frigging crap chat bot. Bloody rubbish, I should pack it in, but feel that is what they want me to do. A business based on people joining getting pissed off and abandoning their account.

Any loss.
A DRAW was all we needed.
SHEFF UTD can fuck right off .
Just like ASTON FOOKIN VILLA IN THE LEAGUE CUP Q/F ..
I despise both

Betway are a shower of shit
I see they have withdrawn their license application in Brazil ahead of regulations coming in.
Transparency is needed to see if Paqueta and his family were initially approached by the bookmaker and club sponsor and encouraged to open an account.
They were previously fined a record amount for courting so called VIP customers with inducements days out and bonus funds encouraging them to continue betting when they couldn't afford it and in one case accepting funds which turned out to be stolen from an employer.
They also recently received a separate fine for advertising on our club children's webpage
I've personally had an issue in getting paid out from them after they offered me a free bet which won at 25/1 and found you cannot get through to anyone other than the useless bot help facility which is not fit for purpose.
Phone calls to the London office and emails to various departments and directors are not responded to.
They treat the customer with utter contempt
As for Paqueta s pals I see most of the bets were less than £50 and some as small as £7
I also suspect they had also backed him to score and in other markets as well as the bookings.
Hopefully that will prove to be the case and he will escape a ban.

I know, that’s what we’ve been talking about. A draw at Man U would have been enough.
ladyboy jumped in and started waffling about 10/11.

Re: Paqueta - Latest news
So. Had our game at Old Trafford ended 0-0, given the other results, we'd have been safe?
Re: Paqueta - Latest news
We finished bottom that year on less than 38 points you retard.
Charlton and sheff united were not in the PL then either.

Yeah it was 2011, I remember being there and the Wigan fans came on the pitch, it was frightening.
