The summer’s first transfer window will close on Tuesday night at 7pm UK time ahead of the Fifa Club World Cup so watch out for some last-minute jobs to fill up squads for Gianni Infantino’s folly. Will Manchester City get Rayan Cherki signed in time? Chelsea are after a keeper in Milan’s Mike Maignan and want to add Jamie Gittens of Borussia Dortmund to their winger collection. Both deals may go to the wire.

When Bournemouth were flying high in mid-winter there was a fun game to play. Less fun if you were a Cherries fan, of course, but the game was to fit their unearthed gems with the clubs they would end up at. Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid was unexpected but then again Illia Zabarnyi to PSG, actual European champions, may well trump that. The club are prepared to sell, at the right price, but have demanded a £59m fee for the Ukrainian.

Antoine Semenyo would have been more predictable, as he is wanted by Europa League duffers Tottenham and Manchester United. That may depend on either club’s success in landing Bryan Mbeumo.

One of the clubs interested in Mbeumo were Newcastle, and he’s said to have turned them down, as have a number of other players. No PSR troubles this time, so a panic setting in? The Toon in for West Ham maverick Mohammed Kudus? Sounds possible, though Chelsea also fancy him.

The boy of this summer – though he’s 30 in September – is Jack Grealish, unwanted by Manchester City, allowed to leave, and looking for a new challenge while trying to rediscover the old magic. Bayer Leverkusen is an interesting link, though how they might afford the wages of a player with two seasons remaining on his Etihad deal is another question.

Erik ten Hag must have liked what he saw in those Manchester derbies, and he would be coaching Jack in Germany’s industrial heartlands – Jack, being a Brummie, knows all about industrial heartlands. Well, maybe a bit. Anyway, should he blow out Bayer, there’s Everton, Newcastle and Tottenham in England. There’s Saudi interest, too, and also Milan, Napoli, Borussia Dortmund and Inter. An emotional return to Aston Villa? Sadly, the numbers don’t add up.

On the continent, Bayern Munich want a winger, and are not messing about in targeting PSG’s Bradley Barcola and Athletic Club’s Nico Williams. Will they be done in time for Bayern to play at the Club World Cup? Unlikely.

“We Can See You Sneaking in” | West Ham Fans Put Barca to Shame

West Ham United posted the tenth highest average attendance in the world last season, drawing an impressive 62,407. This figure was the second highest in the Premier League, trailing only  Manchester United who averaged 73,815 at Old Trafford.

Topping the global list was River Plate with a remarkable 84,782 spectators turning out on average to see the Argentinian Primeria Division side.

What makes West Ham’s attendance figures particularly noteworthy is that they managed to attract such large crowds despite a poor home record – winning just 5 league games at the London Stadium and failing to register a single home victory against any of the Premier League’s top ten sides.

Remarkable really given the rubbish served up last season that Hammers fans continued to show up in such numbers.

A number of clubs featuring above West Ham in attendance rankings enjoyed successful campaigns, which makes the Hammers position even more impressive. More surprising, however are yet some of the clubs that are ranked below them.

Champions League winners, Paris Saint -Germain came in 32nd with 47,676, while Barcelona were 34th with 45,953.

With a modest transfer budget and a difficult season behind them, West Ham must deliver better results in 2025-26 to sustain these strong attendance numbers. A half empty stadium in the Championship is a scenario the club will be desperate to avoid.

How much Sydie Peck earns at Sheffield United and the wages hike he could get at West Ham

Sydie Peck's emergence in the Sheffield United side this season was unprecedented, but the 20-year-old has made himself one of the first names on the team sheet for Chris Wilder's side.

Peck had made just one appearance for the Blades before this season, and came into the 2024/25 campaign as a clear backup behind Vini Souza and Ollie Arblaster.

Injuries meant that he was thrust into the deep end of a Championship title battle immediately, but his performances this term will definitely give Chris Wilder a selection headache once Arblaster returns from his cruciate ligament injury.

hat is, however, if Souza, Arblaster and Peck all remain at Bramall Lane past this summer. The Guardian have recently reported that Premier League side West Ham United have been looking at the Championship for midfield reinforcement, with their eyes set on Sydie Peck, as well as Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney.

And, if Peck was the man for Graham Potter this summer, you'd expect the 20-year-old to be offered a contract worth a substantial amount, especially compared to his current Blades deal, which he penned ahead of his breakout season.

Sydie Peck's current Sheffield United wage estimates

Sydie Peck was an unknown quantity when he signed his current Sheffield United deal, and the fact that it was less than 12 months ago makes his rise even more remarkable.

According to Capology, his deal saw him earn an estimated £3,000 per week, a figure which Capology estimates won't increase across the four years of his contract.

And, for someone who had featured more times on loan for Oldham Athletic than he had in the senior Sheffield United squad at the time, the wage made sense for someone tipped to break into the Blades squad in the future.

However, Peck missed just five games all season in all competitions for Sheffield United this term, and his usage has evidently outgrown the amount per week he's being paid.

Therefore, sides in the Premier League will definitely be looking to offer him at least ten times his current wage, you'd expect, to lure him to the top flight.

West Ham's lucrative payroll examined amidst Sydie Peck transfer rumours

Given West Ham were in the quarter-finals of the Europa League just two seasons ago, their current wage bill reflects a side with a lot more ambition than one which finished 14th in the most recent Premier League campaign.

The Hammers' highest-paid players, per Capology's estimates, are Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen, who both earn an estimated £150,000 per week.

Now, Peck won't earn that much immediately, but when you take into account that over 18 players were estimated to have earned over £50,000 per week last season at the London Stadium, it shows how much money West Ham truly have to throw at new signings.

For a more accurate take on how much Peck could earn at the London Stadium, looking at Crysencio Summerville's current wage would be wise. The 2023/24 Championship Player of the Year made the move from Elland Road to East London last summer and currently earns an estimated £30,000 per week.

Sheffield United could afford to keep Sydie Peck this summer, and West Ham's recent business may persuade him to stay

If West Ham were to approach Sydie Peck and offer a similar wage to Crysencio Summerville, Sheffield United could be able to persuade the 20-year-old to stay with an improved contract of their own.

The Blades were estimated to have been paying eight different players £30,000 or more per week, with just three of those being loanees. Therefore, if Chris Wilder's side were truly eager to retain Peck's services, they would not lack the money to do so.

Additionally, after registering 28 goal involvements for Leeds United in the Championship, Summerville's career stagnated, if not regressed, during his first season at West Ham, with injuries and a lack of consistent starts seeing him score just once in his debut campaign.

Peck may look at this and be put off from joining the Hammers, and if Sheffield United come with a better contract for the 20-year-old, he may be more inclined to become a Premier League regular at his current club instead.
