All stems from one of Palaces owners who has a 43% stake in the club, so technically is that breaching the rules? Surely it should be over 50% BUT he is also the owner of Lyon who will be in the Europa as well!!!!

Over the past few years Man City amongst others have gotten away with all sorts, as have Barcelona and Chelsea when it comes to swerving financial rules, but i expect as Palace are not in the "clique" UEFA will maybe make an example of them.

I hope they let Palace compete though.

Why is he a twat... he's a twat, not for adhering to the insane rulings of UEFA but because he knows full well the impact this is having on his bank balance.  Palace and the FA and every fan outside of Sherwood including those County fans in Nottingham, know that the winners of the FA Cup go to Europe.  It's what we still call in pockets of this country 'fair play'.  If they win then I hope they rot in Europe and end up in some wanky midlands league for eternity.  If it had been us I would have been pissed off granted, but I would also want fair play and its that rule that I live my life by.  Rightly or wrongly, perhaps even naively.  But i't a better and happier place to be in that that fat twat is.

However, their controlling shareholder at Palace also has a stake in Brondby who are in the conference and as they also finished higher than 12th, they get the nod.

This leaves Palace without a European competition due to TWO of their shareholders having stakes elsewhere and not having mitigated against it in time, so the blame really does lay with them, even if it feels harsh on the fans.

This unique set of circumstances puts Brighton up into the Europa where Palace would have been (you have to love that it is their rivals getting their spot) and Forest taking the Conference place that Brighton had occupied by nature of their next highest finishing position.

What your post outlines in is that many people see the headlines and then react without knowing the finer details. It’s not that I agree or disagree with the rules personally, but every board goes in eyes wide open, and if you have stakes in various clubs you run the risk of it impacting your other interests.

I have an irrational hatred of Crystal Palace and their divvy fans, so in that respect I’m enjoying the fact their European dream is in tatters, but I also don’t care about the clubs replacing them either, so hope they get knocked out and have a miserable experience in Europe.

I used to have a share in West Ham, it was a birthday present. I could have bought a share in another club. Only one share in each club but that puts me in this boat, I don't see the problem with multiple club stakes if you only have a control over one of them.

The rules are, for once, quite thorough and unambiguous but you could simply do away with the one that says you can't control two clubs in the same competition and it's problem solved. Open to abuse, yes, but that's the losing club's problem and not UEFAs

Then a decision was taken to enter the teams in competitions where such an outcome was a non-zero possibility.

Down to the owners of both teams to come up with a solution that compiles with the existing tournament rules, but one thing for sure, Nottingham Forest should not even get a sniff at the chance of taking the place of Crystal Palace.

Run the competition with one less team and byes.

Interesting how ownership of more than one team is seen as an issue in football.  Common practice in horse racing.  In the Derby there were at least 5 runners out of 18 with a Magnier ownership connection.
