Misplaced Childhood 40 years old today
Released June 17th 1985. Still regarded by many as the greatest progressive rock album of the 1980s, although Id probably award that accolade to either The Final Cut or Somewhere in Afrika myself.
And it is the only album by Marillion which actually topped the album charts albeit extremely briefly.
It is a great album which I do still listen to at least once or twice a month and it doesn’t sound dated at all imo. Not quite their greatest album imo. I’d say Afraid of Sunlight was. But it’s certainly up there. Going to put it on now.

Great album but I've always been more of a fan of Marillion with Hogarth singing. Frankly Fish's lyrics always sounded as if he'd sat there writing them with extensive consultation of a thesaurus.
Always felt a bit 'sixth-form' to me?...
They're playing at the Kernowfornia festival down in Cornwall quite soon as part of quite a mixed bill.

I remember listening to this on a microdot - that was a journey.
Saw them a few times and Fish is a brilliant front man. His between song chat was a mini stand up act.
Also loved Pete Trewavas's organ rearranging bass pedals when he stamped on them.
Never my favourite band but always great live.

I've got a few Marillion concert videos in my collection and they're all a rather pleasant way to waste a couple of hours.
