Back in the day an absolute spaceman of a post office driver delivering to the BFPO broke through a security gate at RAF Northolt and ended up being chased down the runway and having guns pointed at him

When my old man started working there a few years later security had been ramped up a notch and his car was checked over overtime he entered and left by armed guards

I guess its difficult to totally monitor a ten mile perimeter unless you electrify the fence or double up on it

The state of our armed forces and the old bill is a big concern though.

Recruitment now focussing on quotas and diversity rather than an ability to do the job

I don't know if it's the same nowadays but the entrance exam used to determine which regiments you could join

My mates boy joined at 18 after dossing around and dropping out of college but has now trained to become a helicopter pilot and been all over the world 

You get dome of the best training in the world if you make the grade academicly and the skills are often transferable.

Others become institutionalised and struggle to adapt to civilian life as we know.

There is certainly not enough done to support those who have seen action and struggled with PTSD particularly when they leave.
