Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

He has spent a fortune backing the managers. And yes, of course it's the money the club earns, that's how it works. They have not been the right managers, and they have not been the right signings, but the money spent on transfers is indisputable, you plank.

I'd rather we done our research, bought wisely, sold wisely, invested in the infrastructure of the club, appointed good managers. Every single one of us wants all that, and it's been said a thousand times.

I honestly wonder if some of you can read what has actually been written.

But Sullivan hasn't invested in the club, he has on a few occasions spent club money on terrible deals on a pay structure designed to set us up in a difficult position long term.
And I don't the fact that he has backed managers. He didn't acquire those players if it wasn't for one sort of a deal making him look good one way or the other, but not for backing a manager

Arnautovic - £20mil
Felipe Anderson - £40mil
Haller - £45mil
Kilman - £40mil
Zouma  -£30mil
Aguerd - 30mil
JWP - £30mil

All players that managers wanted, who we massively overpaid for to get (maybe Arnautovic aside, although only eventually)

I agree. All players, with the possible exception of Zouma, whose health issues should have been a massive red flag which scuppered the deal were unsuited to the mangers style of play.
The issue is "players the manager wanted". Surely this should have been an objective process run by a director of football.
Arnautovic was not at the top of Slavs list and Moyes lucked in by changing his position.
In the cases of Anderson and Haller they were never going to survive the change of manager. Both have had successful careers away from West Ham. We did overpay but they were devalued by Moyes and sold at an even greater loss than should have been realised given no consistency in managerial appointments.
Kilman and JWP were terrible buys, not suited and not worth the money. Surely a football person would have called these deals out?
Aguerd is a ball playing centre half not suited to backs to the wall football. Moyes wanted him, but why? Again a football person, backed by analysis of Aguerds game would have called this deal out.
Another example of wasteful spending rather than strategic investment in playing staff.
Yes, everyone knows all that, you're just regurgitating what has been said a thousand times, and what I touched on in the last bit of my post, which you conveniently left off.

The owner is shit, but let's not pretend he hasn't backed managers with big dough. The opposite has been true, to our detrement.

Moyes basically just froze out the players he didn't want, IMO. Scamacca can be added to this list as well.

To get to the heart of the matter, it always all leads back to Sullivan. The self proclaimed football expert still sanctioned and made all these terrible buys for those prices. Let us not forget he didn't torpedo any of these like he has done with other deals, or just not entertain them in the first place. The buck stops 100% with him. He's a fucking expert who knows better than everyone else on earth when it suits him and he pleads innocence and plays the 'I didn't want them but just went along with it.' when that suits him. He's not some poor gullible old lad hoodwinked by nasty employees. Incredible how with the power of hindsight he's the greatest talent spotter who ever lived with a hit rate higher than Klopp at Liverpool. I'm just amazed Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG or Man City haven't asked him to sell little old West Ham and offer him billions to oversee their transfer strategy, such is his genius..

Every player we've signed, whether a success or a massive flop, and every player who has got away for various reasons is 100% down to him. And our record is mainly fucking lousy since he took over. For every Bowen or AWB, there are five Tores, Ayews or Kilmans,

FFS surely we should have a new defence and midfield signed by now. And a striker. It's a disaster.

Ita fucking sickens me really, a few years ago we won a European trophy and should have used that as a springboard to the next level? but what did we do, keep a manager a year too long and then literally piss up against a wall a decent transfer budget and OPPORTUNITY.

Mind you its seems rinse and repeat with these owners??? this window will be shit, and next season let's be realistic, all we can hope for is a finish of 12th to 17th next season, we really are just another fodder club for the big clubs to play.

Transfers of anyone decent or with ambition bar a decent wage🤣😂😃🤣

The problem hasn't been derisory bids or not backing the manager, it's the opposite, the problem has been lack of foresight and proper planning over the years, but at least get it right if you're going to CONSTANTLY drone on about the same thing for fuck sake.

With links to his previous business empire, he may well have a lot of skeletons in a lot of media closets dissuading any significant criticism from gaining the public exposure needed.

Depressing.  Unfortunately the social media do not hammer Sullivan hard enough either. The whole blaming of Steiden and undermining of most managers or simply shoddy handling of everything.   We just have to hope we see the end of his control sooner than later.  Its been 15 years of pain after Brown, Chapman, The Cearns going back to WW2.  One set of greedy, self interest, selfish, self absorbed owners after another.  It does make you feel we are cursed. Not one owner has ever got close to realising the potential of the club. Not one period or era of sustained success.  Even the Lyall / Greenwood years of cup success, we were largely crap in the league.
He doesn't have the same excuse as the Icelandics, Brown, Cearns/Chapman and so forth. They were incompetent but in a different way either through being far too prudent and tightfisted or recklessly stupid when they had a bit of wedge to blow. Telling Jack Petchley to do one was a massive mistake as well.

Never have our attendances been so high and never has the premiership TV incomes been so lucrative - the problem is Sullivan and the way he operates the football side of the club. There is no excuse now, the budget the club has to lay down foundations and get things done properly is astronomical compared to all our previous owners. The portakabin gym facility at the training ground is another complete pisstake. Really?

Pellegrini was most certainly shell-shocked when he first clocked it. He probably expected a half decent facility without having to viddy it beforehand. He would NOT not have expected something so half-arsed that he would have seen back in his playing days in 70's Chile - dictatorship and all! I have no doubt that he wouldn't have taken the job if he'd seen that shitshow before he signed the contract in the tacky mansion.

It's pathetic and beyond the pale and repeated and infinitum regardless of the manager it happens to be.

What a shocker. It's not like we've all been predicting it for months that he's going to as usual absolutely cut the manager and head of recruitement's nuts off at his whims. This is why we'll never ever have any lasting success with the dino dwarf running anything on the football side. We'll never build anything long term or sustainable.
