Post stubbo-admin »

Off to Wimbledon today....had a look at the players/draw and hadly know a single player. No more the halcyon days of Murray, Federer, Nadal and then latterly Djokovic.

Or the good old days of Agassi, Sampras, Courier etc.

Anyway, anyone we should be looking out for?

A SMASHING BIT OF CRUMPET
Would be quicker just to list the female tennis players that are not a smashing bit of crumpet. I'll start the list off with these:

Madison Keys

I had to Google that one. Good call.

Watching women's tennis is OK, but there is something not right about blokes playing. A bit like blokes on a bus doing knitting

Is Sabine Lisicki in it this year?

I'm envious, it really was one of the greatest events any sport has ever seen. Dont think we'll ever see another who played with the grace and seeming ease that Federer did, he made winning a 5 setter look abour as taxing as a walk to the shop.
Yeah I was very lucky. At the time you felt something special was brewing and the rain delays really added to the occasion. In the stadium it really was very dark when they actually finished. My seat was side on parallel with one of the baselines. I have to say Federer just hit the ball differently to anyone I've ever seen hit a tennis ball- especially the bog topspin forehand. Grace is indeed the word! It just looked effortless while Nadal was brute force with his. Was gutted Federer lost (the last true gentleman sportsman?) but, yeah, very very lucky to have been there for that.

Speaking of, there's a great documentary on you tube that covers the 2008 final between Rog and Nadal, one of the greatest sporting contests ever!
I was at that final. Was mental.

Alex de Minaur is first up (11am) on Court 18 today so you might see Katie Boulter there
If you are a middle aged man stalking women young enough to be your granddaughter

After the golden era of Federer Nadal & Djokovic we now have Sinner & Alcaraz starting a high class rivalry
Would be nice to have one or two more at that level
The game moves on

If you are on centre court Zverev (3rd seed) is second match up followed by Djokovic & Coco Gauff (Not playing each other)
Court 1 has Sinner (top seed) up first & the Englishman Draper (4th seed) in the 4th scheduled match. One of the matches before that is the 5th set of the incomplete Fritz game so unlikely to be on too late

Nothing in the ballot for me after last year
Would prefer to go later in the week when it’s 23 rather than 33

Wimbledon have said they aren’t banning Palestinian flags but don’t expect to have players leading fans in Death to the IDF chants

Wonder if they will allow anyone in wearing keffiyehs or carrying Palestinian flags?

And what's the odds the usual smelly mob have one of their protests? It was just stop oil last year but expect they have all moved on to this year's virtue signaling flavour of the month and to be Hamas supporters now.
