Surely a quick word with a Bradford taxi driver would have ensured that this remained buried beneath endless, eternal inquiries until long after he's pushing up the Daisies.

That's how it works, isn't it?

Personally I think the footballers are all likely to be rapists thing is a load of bollocks really. It’s based on working class stereotypes pushed by the establishment and media figures that essentially equate working class people with money as being out of control thicko’s with violent tendencies. Never hear it much about rugby or cricket players who are seen as better class wise, but always footballers.

The ratio of football rape allegations is so out of sync with generally reported rape figures it makes no sense. The reality is most girls that mess with footballers are a set type that go looking for them specifically. Unless they knew them from young, these girls are similar to groupies in the music game.

If you don’t meet your girl from a young age in the football world you’ll never meet “normal” girls ever again. You will be inundated with those type of football groupies or similar. Must be crazy navigating yourself through that crap.

I don’t buy it myself, just like the chet Evans case that I didn’t buy either when everyone and his dog was crucifying him. I still don’t understand why all these physically fit, multi millionaire , young and single footballers NEED to force a woman to have sex with them. Especially since they know they are all being targeted anyways. But maybe they’re just all that dumb, who knows?

You'd think footballers would avoid  'surprise sex'. They can get any woman they want,  afford the best hookers and buy silence. The career is so short and lucrative it defies belief that anyone could be stupid enough to go there?

He does look like a bit of a wrong un in fairness.

Everton suspended Sigurdsson when he was arrested on child sex offences.
Was never charged & decided not to sue
Never played for Everton again & surprised that he is still playing in Iceland at 35

Obviously at a different level but we didn’t suspend Zouma when his feline booting was revealed

These allegations about Partey have been around for a few years & have taken forever to progress
Someone said they may have happened this week as there is a fair chance he would leave the country now his Arsenal contract is up

What is the consensus here?

If you say you are not guilty of a crime and especially if you have not been charged should your work suspend you?

It’s taken 3yrs to even charge the guy so essentially you would have finished his career on an unproven allegation. Even if you paid him whilst suspended, footballers need to play competitively regularly to remain sharp.

Mendy was acquitted after years of suspension. It ruined him.

is the issue with Partey that it looks like Arsenal put pressure on the cps not to charge him until his contract was up? If so that’s a serious but sort of unrelated problem.

I just don’t get it anymore. Yes we want SA convictions to rise but I’m not in favour of the “you need to crack an egg to make an omelette” thing. We have hundreds of years of legal precedent here. Innocent until proven guilty means exactly what it says. Why should your circumstance change if you are officially innocent of any wrong doing? More importantly. Why should your career suffer irreparable harm if you are an innocent person?

it makes no sense.

In fairness to Arsenal, just about every pro footballer charged with rape in the past decade has eventually been acquitted.

Back in the days when you got 2 points for a win, it was a general understanding that you couldn't sign/play for Arsenal unless you had a criminal record.

What a bizarre coincidence that this happens shortly after being released by Arsenal. Clearly they had no idea this would happen. What a bunch of shits all round, Arteta included.
