Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

Window this close season comes in two parts:

Obviously needs to move as he is never getting in their team permanently

Liverpool are saying £40m for Elliot if they have a buy back clause. £50m if it’s a full transfer with no buy back
The only way he is coming to us (if he even wanted to) is if Paqueta is cleared and sold for something similar.
There is a way. It's already being discussed. It involves no buy back, we get Elliot, Morton and some cash but we lose someone..
Who?
Realistically the only player we have that could drive that kind of deal (given they value Elliott at 50m without buyback and Morton between 15 and 20m) is Bowen.

Harvey Elliott would be a great get, but I just cannot see it happening. Him and a high energy box to box or CDM would be lovely business.

Have we not sold Cornet yet? What a strange signing that was. I guess if he comes back like with Aguerd it will be like a new signeing.

The truth is, those 2 games aside, he struggled.

We wouldn't be doing £20mil on a bloke in that position if we didn't have to.

Not saying you Faux but I really can't see why being up against 1 of the world's best attacking wingers and Champions elect Team where we only conceded once during that time at Anfield would be something that's held against Scarles. Especially considering he made such a fantastic impact prior to that picking up impressive PERSON of the Match performances away against Arsenal and Villa in the Cup amongst other positive performances he also made in his breakthrough Premier League season.

I would have preferred we made him our mainstay but we've gone this route now with this new chap we'd expect to be the main man for the money we've forked out on him.

As some others point out, it's not quite sure how Potter intends to play him so there are some unanswered questions about how exactly they'll be played and prioritised. All I hope is that there has been real thought and logic behind it all.

Unfortunately, he lacks the pace for that. Given we'll be playing wingbacks mostly, i don't think he'll get a lot of gametime due to that.

Personally, I think he should try to go down the left sided centre half route. Got the size for it, just needs to work on his heading and defensive nous.

With the money used for him, Left Back wouldn't have been a priority for me. So got mixed feelings about the signing in that regard because I genuinely believe Scarles is a talent. Was it really wise to spend so much on another Left Back, only time will tell..

Ideally it leads to excellent competition between them and neither 1 gets the hump not getting enough playing time.
The priority must be to ship Emerson out now.  No point in having him in the squad now we've bought another left back.

Diouf will be missing for a chunk of this season at the stupid African cup, so we'll need Scarles to fill in then, I guess.

Really can't understand why we've signed Diouf when we're so WELL STOCKED at LB, eh Trundle.

Not sure if that was under instructions or what
Got a chasing from Salah (not a surprise) & got taken out after that
Hopefully he learnt a lot that day

I think that Scarles true position on the pitch is actually as a deep lying centre midfield player on the left side of 3 in the middle. He can only get better by learning his role at left-back and do a good job there when required and called upon but I certainly see him as a midfielder on long term basis.

I suppose if he ever recovers, Summerville can play RWB.

Mental he's been out injured longer than Antonio was with a fucking hamstring (or whatever it was) tear.

It's not only him, but AWB also.

We'll likely need a right back to come in and cover him.

Or the plan is to play a formation with no fullbacks/wingbacks during that time.
