Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

How about the chance of European football next season? An achievement he'd have had a big say in.

Can we stop all this nonsense about Grealish coming to us. More likely to go to Newcastle or back to Villa.

KWP will be announced in the next few days.

I remember saying that we needed to replace Coufal some time ago and was shot down by Goose saying that we had a right back in AWB and therefor didn’t need to replace him. Just goes to show what he knows.
Still obsessed with me I see.
Ignoring your lies, the conversation was about what’s the priority. I said given our budget restraints I would focus on a few other positions first.

and we’ve just dropped a big wage and signing on fee on a squad player.

the glaring holes in midfield and upfront and at centre back still remain.
Not obsessed with you ffs, just responding to your attack at that time. I knew it gonna happen, for anyone who knows even just a little bit about football it was obvious he needed replacing. Turns out I was right and you were wrong again.
You think wasting a tonne of wages on a squad player is some kind of vindication? Can he play centre mid? No. Centre forward? No. Centre back? No.

Let’s see how many more we get through the door before showing off about expensive squad players.

How many clubs are lining up to sign Coufal since he became a free agent? Not even Fulham who apparently wanted hin in January

Grealish at Villa was allowed to be the creative hub of the team
At City he is asked to be a cog in Pep’s machine & forget most of his creativity
He needs to be a big fish in a smaller pool
We are the sort of tepid paddling pool that would suit him
Be surprised if it happened

The Grealish version at Villa I liked, the one that can barely scored these days in recent seasons I'm not keen on at all. If he regained his old form it would be a positive signing if the deal was right. Attracted by the bright lights of London would playboy Jack still have the hunger to perform and not be easily distracted? It's questionable.

I would absolutely fucking love us to sign Grealish.

Class player, class lad, thick as pigshit but would give me a reason to do that fucking slog of a walk in no mans land from the station.

Not surprised some of you librarians are turning your nose up though. Boring cunts.

Party Jack. And coming to London. Isn't really a sound idea. Not if you want a professional football player.

If Grealish is on a wage subsidised loan in addition to a younger midfielder, and not instead of, I can get on board. He’s the sort of player we’ve always loved. Someone who gets you off your feet. Different generation but we signed Di Canio at 30.

Walker-Peters is clearly a smart signing for free when we have a limited budget, for all the reasons detailed. Experienced, covers both sides, allows AWB to play on the back three. 28 is not old, and is an upgrade on Coufal who it seems some were happy to give another deal to at nearly 33…

Wouldn't surprise me if Kwp becomes a fixture in the 1st 11 with Awb playing in the back 3 which could allow a CB to be sold to bring some money in

No problem at all with KWP joining on a free. Is younger than Coufal, Emerson & Cresswell, has more energy & can cover all their positions so 2 in 3 out makes a lot of sense financially and allows us to free up bench & squad places. Will also allow Scarles plenty of oppirtunities as they will be the only fullback cover we have. So with KWP being more naturally rigjt sided and Scarles being more naturally left sided it offers a good balance and makes sense.

We could end up with JCT, JWP, AWB, EHMD and KWP which could get a tad confusing though.

Can hear Sullivan now “you get 3 picks Potter and I will get the rest for you and you’re nerdy mate Kyle, look at them as my gifts to you. I know my onions when it comes to football and recruitment and transfers. Im still the best there is”.   “That Macaulay geezer and his spreadsheets, data analysis, he’s clueles”

Probably just as well that he won't be coming here to play either of those roles then. As an attacking wing-back he's a much better option than either Coufal (who absolutely cannot run up and down the flank all game any more) or Emerson (who pretty much always wanted to cut inside as soon as he got near the half way line).

Depends on what kind of contract he might be offered, but as a necessary squad backup/competition for AWB and Diouf, this a decent signing and should allow us to spend more on other areas of the team.

Unless it’s a loan with MC paying a bit chunk of wages, I wouldn’t go near Grealish.
Plus we have Summerville & Guilherme in that position.

much rather we use our budget on sorting the spine of the team.

Grealish is a typical Sullivan “bling” or “razzle dazzle” signing. Old, played for a big club and was an England international etc.  like buying a fully loaded 2003 Masserati with 200,000 on the clock but with an electric blue metallic respray… “blinding it is”. Big shot Sullivan.

After starting well bringing in a 20yo first teamer to help lower the age of our Dads Army Squad, we then look to immediately bring in a 28yo and a 30yo next season, having just lost a 24yo attacker. We never fucking learn.

He actually wanted to join Fulham in January.

Sir Alf" wrote: 17 Jul 2025, 16:57 Squad I guess is stronger overall if Diouff turns out to be better than Emerson or Scarles and KWP turns out to be better than Coufal ( he aint nowhere near AWB’s  level but not many are imo ).

But being the miserable, pessimistic git I am, the season still rests on athletes/pace and ability to press etc in midfield. Did not think this bloke at Leicester or Fernandez is it ? at Southampton provide the much needed pace or energy but will defer to others that may have watched them a few times.  What I do know is if we are regularly starting games with Soucek, JWP and relying on Alvarez and Paqueta too for pace and energy, relentless pressing etc, we are fvcked again

That's just it: I don't think KWP is a better player than Coufal at right-back or Emerson at left-back.

To me, the squad just gets weaker at full-back if both those players leave (Coufal already has, of course) and KWP comes in. That's exactly why I don't see this as 'good' business for the club.

But it's one deal and the likes of ED (who I respect) thinks differently. My bigger concern is the broad level at which the club appears to be pitching itself. It all feels a bit "bottom half".
