May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

Sullivan probably doesn't have much faith in Potter (and why would he?) So there's no hope that we're going to spend all we could this summer when there's a very good chance that we'll need to pay off Potter and his team, spend money on a new manager and his team, AND buy new players in the January window to suit the new manager, who'll probably have a completely different style of play, formation, etc.

Im worried we are back where we were 2 weeks ago. “Without a pot to piss in” in terms of budget.  Kudus money gone. We did hear rumour that only 75% of the Kudus money wpuld be available to Potter. We also heard that PSR was not the issue but cash flow was and we had none.  The Kudus deal was cheap in part allegedly because Spurs agreed to pay a third now. That would be just shy of £19 million which we spent on Diouf.

15 years and Sullivan still meddling. Thats the issue here. Wilson is typical, old has been but even if it was a younger player, same issue. Or is it just Sullivan making sure he puts some dosh the way of Salthouse, Silkman, Mackay etc to ensure they continue to suck up to him ( pretending they are friends). btw, as noted elsewhere, David Sullivan Jnr all over Kyle Walker Peters promotional photos like a rash. I highly suspect KWP was another owner pick foisted on Potter albeit Potter had got his man Diouf so not so fussed snd can see a use for KWP.  

In short, owners of football clubs should not meddle in the football operation.  No other top division club has that anymore. Its a 30 - 40 year old operational model by a narcissitic owner, who is a rank amateur. His greatest achievement is to successfully hold back West Ham from any real success and progression.

We have to outlive him and hope the sons are not as “needy” for validation

He probably didn't want Sullivans's striker , so what happens next is Sullivan having a tantrum and will use Salthouse and sign Wilson æ. He then can put the blame on Potter.

Agree.  It's a sad day that we are desperate for a striker but would rather not sign one.

But if it's Bowen, Fullkrug and Marshall the 3 strikers, with Summerville, Guillerme, Paqueta, Orford, Earthy and hopefully a singing or two supporting, then that is probably better than bringing in a 33 y/o has been.

Also think Potter may consider Bowen a striker option now, so it would be Fullkrug, Bowen and Marshall going into the season.

Which would make the potential chasing of Harvey Elliot more understandable, as he offers a RW alternative should Bowen go central. 

I'd rather no striker than Wilson or Antonio again, and those be our options. They may be "free" but the packages will still cost a lot for little return with those two. 

Still a full month of the window left though, and it wouldn't surprise me if Sullivan leaves it right until the last minute to try get deals over the line and to see where other deals fall/land and whom becomes available (cheap loans!), as that also saves him a penny or two and has been the case in previous years - its not panic stations just yet - but agree with others than the central midfield not having changed is still the greatest concern.

Agree- there have been whiffs of that with loads of loan players over the years as well IIRC, and loan to buy players, where a certain number of games or minutes played will likely trigger some sort of obligation.

And you're right, it just shouldn't be a factor in picking a team or managing a match. You'd be surprised if again the conversation with all those managers regarding those players wasn't something like 'You can have this player with these constraints, or nothing.'

There can't be another club run this shambolically.

In the C&H article, the following sentence is key “His agent Will Salthouse is playing a key role in securing a deal.” What it does not mention is Sullivan playimg a key role too.  Potter like all his predecessors, obeys his employer or has to resign which he wont. Same with BFS, Bilic, Moyes etc.

We’ve had 15 years of an owner who meddles in the football side of the clubs he owns ( same when he owned Brum). He has failed spectacularly throughout this time, and yet his need for validation or just his ego means he cannot let go.  He remsins the insurmountable barrier to success.  He might be well intentioned? In his mind,he is thinking he knows best and Wilson will become an expected success and lead us to Europe with 30 goals. Conversly, he’s just looking after a mate ( Salthouse )?

As for announcing that to the media straight up, that those players were forced on him and he didn't want them, no manager would do that unless he's asking for the tin tack or he's basically irreplaceable. You just don't do that to your employer in public.  None of us would.

It doesn't have to be like that.

There would be nothing wrong with him saying:
"A couple of targets were put in front of me, but we decided against going in that direction and we'll focus on the kids coming through instead"

No headlines in that, no drama, but it explains to the supporters what's going on.

Perhaps another reason why Sullivan will only ever employ a manager who us out of work. Hence grateful and easier to control.  ?

I think you're under the misapprehension they just do it for the money. They don't. The money is very nice but they love the job. It's a bloody hard all consuming job where you get loads of pressure, plenty of criticism and not a lot of praise.  You have to want the job, not the money. You won't hack it otherwise.
