May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

Sadly my pessimism that we would not do any real business much until August has become reality. Yeah we got Diouf but the critically weak areas of the team from last season have not been addressed ( central midfield, goalkeeper and striker ) so there is no reason imho to expect any real improvements which seems evident from last nights pre season friendly.

Has anyone noticed the similarity between last years 3 headed transfer window and this year? Last year 3 for Steidten, 3 for Lopetegui and 3 for our beloved majority shareholder.
This year, with the usual mouthpieces leaking like worn out incontinence knickers we have:
Young talent and unheard of players - Potter and Macaulay.
Big names with absolutely no chance of signing for us, including those who definitively rejected any advance before it got off the ground (Rios, Gomes as examples, not an exhaustive list). These will fit neatly into the tried hard and worked tirelessly narrative due at the end of the window. Sullivan?
The usual suspects not likely to trouble the upper reaches of the premier league Walker-Peters, Wilson, Brownhill, etc. Sullivan?

Whilst Sullivan remains in charge, it will always be that way. 

He's completely unable to recognise his own shortcomings, is quite clearly 'on the make', and places no value or worth in his managers, as proven by the fact he's not prepared to spend a penny to obtain one.

When it comes to actual signings, aside from extracting funds from club coffers to his own (alledged) via Salthouse and/or Silkman, he's got this unshakeable belief in his own ability to 'pick a player'.  The attitude of a gambler with too much money, an inferiority complex that seeks him to want shiny, ostentatious things, and a mindset that belongs back in the 70s.

So hoping for anything else during transfer windows with him at the helm is like hoping that the relentless stream of 'take our country back' Threads in Off Topic might cessate.  It's clearly not going to happen, and it's only with concerted efforts from those that have an interest in a different way of doing things that anything will ever change, and in the meantime batten down the hatches and deal with what comes.

And lastly...the blame is just as much on Kretinsky, Tripp Smith, Gold's daughter, and whoever the other main shareholders are....Sullivan has the largest stake, but not the majority stake.  If they all wanted to push for the decrepit 76 year old fossil to have less control, then they could. But clearly they aren't interested as long as the Premier League gravy train continues to roll into town.

The way I see it, if you owned 20% of shares in Fluminse FC of Brazil, and it paid you a dividend of 10% every year, would you really give a shit who they were buying or what the chairman was doing? As long as you got your money you're good. I dont spend my evenings looking at how any company I have shares in is operating. Who really cares?

I suppose we cant ask for more from people that if we were in their position, would act just the same. Which is why the PL should regulate shareholder behaviour. Football clubs represent the community and our country so I do think the govt should ensure that club owners demonstrate they are operating in a clubs sporting and community interest before financial concerns. Just like the board of a company have a legal duty to maximise profits for shareholders, there should be something similar for sports clubs.

They should be audited and be asked is it in the sporting interest of a club to buy a 35yr old injury prone striker from an agent friend who has scored 1 goal in a year?

Football clubs used to be owned by people from the community or at least businessmen that cared about sports. Mainly because there wasnt that much money in it. Now in the PL era there is a tremendous amount of money being made and siphoned out by various "entities".

It's not going to stop I suppose. You just hope you get lucky that someone wants to buy a club because they have something to prove or sees value in winning beyond money (even then thats usually sports washing etc).

It's all a bit fucked. Sometimes you get a manager who knows all thats going on above them is bollocks but still loves the game and just wants to do well beyond the money. I hope Potter ends up being that kind of guy.
