A goose and Nutsin thread is probably better.
To be fair, they should be praised. They've single handily destroyed all talk of politics (which is a huge bonus) on this site for everyone else. I've twice posted about UK politics on here recently, and it's been completely gobbled up with the shit they throw at each other.

Strip out trade inventory & government spending and you have “Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers”. This is underlying demand growth.
Q2 was 1.2%, a step back of 0.7% from Q1.
Like I said, don’t just read the headlines.

You really are a sucker for a headline.
When Q1 retracted it was all about inventory pull forward, now that unwinds it’s suddenly an economic miracle??
as I quoted from Reuters, “grossly distorted” by trade movements.
H1 is a mile behind LY and a mile behind all the expectations back at the start of the year.

US economy rebounds in second quarter - https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-eco ... 025-07-30/
WASHINGTON - U.S. economic growth rebounded more than expected in the second quarter, but that grossly overstated the economy's health as subsiding imports accounted for the bulk of the improvement and consumer spending increased moderately.
1.3% over H1 vs 2.8% in 2024.

again you're incapable of reading past the headline.
strip out the movement of imports and come back to me.

The population of England and Wales has grown by more than 700,000 in the year to June 2024 - the second-largest increase in over 75 years.
The change was largely fuelled by international migration, with natural change - the difference between births and deaths - accounting for only a small proportion.

It's the unnecessarily dramatic movie orchestra played over the top of a bit of pitch and putt for me. I was half expecting Godzilla to rise out of the bunker.

Re: The Official Politics Thread (enter at your own risk)
For more than a decade, Britannia Hotelsearned a dubious distinction. In annual surveys by consumer group Which?, it repeatedly emerged as the UK’s worst hotel chain. In 2023, it achieved this honour for the 11th year running, with complaints ranging from cleanliness and room quality to customer service issues.Yet the man behind the business hasn’t done too badly. Alex Langsam, who founded the chain nearly 40 years ago and remains its chief executive to this day, was estimated to be worth £401m in this year’s Sunday Times Rich List. The 87-year-old’s wealth has been bolstered in recent years by the Government’s use of his hotels to accommodate asylum seekers via lucrative taxpayer-funded contracts. In fact, his empire of more than 60 sites has become so well-known as a go-to chain for migrant accommodation that Langsam himself has been dubbed the “asylum king”.
