There is a sense that the transfer window is entering a period of calm before the inevitable storm. The chitter-chatter of agents is at a lull and the same old names are being bandied around in the hope someone will finally have a nibble.

Tottenham’s Son Heung-min is on his way out and therefore a replacement needs to be found by Thomas Frank. At this stage of August, it is sensible to target someone who is definitely available. Real Madrid’s Rodrygo will be allowed to leave the Spanish capital and moving to the British equivalent may be a reasonable selling point to the Brazilian, not to mention the joys of testing himself in the Premier League rather than sitting on a number of La Liga benches.

If Liverpool are to get the money together to bring in Alexander Isak, it would be quite helpful if they could off-load Darwin Núñez. Do not fear, because there is often a Saudi Premier League side willing to help out clubs in such a plight and Al-Hilal are open to offering a massive wad of cash in exchange for the Uruguayan striker.

It is well documented that Manchester United and Newcastle want to acquire the lanky services of Benjamin Sesko from Leipzig, but the Magpies are busily concocting a plan B, just in case the Slovenian fancies keeping his midweeks free. If Sesko heads to Old Trafford, Eddie Howe will get on the blower to Paris Saint-Germain as he is keen on Gonçalo Ramos. The Portuguese striker has rarely been Luis Enrique’s first choice, so could be happy to head to another Champions League team in the hope of becoming a star.

One former Manchester United forward could be on the move in the coming weeks, as Inter have taken an interest in Mason Greenwood. The former England international has impressed in Ligue 1 with Marseille, and any potential sale would be welcomed at Old Trafford as they get a healthy whack of sell-on percentage. Whether Inter push forward with a move for Greenwood, might depend on another English-born winger after Ademola Lookman handed in a transfer request at Atalanta. The Nigerian international has been a target at San Siro for a while and Lookman looks eager to push through a move.

Chelsea remain keen on the Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons but there could be a twist in the tale as the Germans may counter this by bidding for Tyrique George. The teenager has shown promise since breaking into the first team at Stamford Bridge, but very few people are off limits at Chelsea as they just love to do deals.

And across London, Arsenal have made an inquiry with Rennes over the 20-year-old defender Jérémy Jacquet. The French centre-back is deemed to be not for sale by the Ligue 1 side, which might be somewhat problematic for the Gunners, but money often talks.

West Ham 2-0 Bournemouth: Hammers end pre-season tour on high with Jarrod Bowen on target

West Ham finished their pre-season tour of the United States with a comfortable 2-0 win over Bournemouth in Atlanta, Georgia.

Graham Potter’s side had a chance of winning the Premier League Super Series, but needed Manchester United to lose by at least three goals against Everton in order to do so.

Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils drew 2-2 with the Toffees to lift the competition’s second title, but that does not mean that West Ham did not impress when it mattered.

Club captain Jarrod Bowen and his strike partner Niclas Fullkrug were both on the scoresheet as Potter’s Hammers got the better of Andoni Iraola’s Cherries at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Lucas Paqueta started and played 85 minutes in his first match since being cleared of spot-fixing charges earlier this week.

Bournemouth dominated the ball for the most part, with 57% possession, and their talismanic striker Evanilson missed an absolute sitter when given a gilt-edged opportunity to put the Dorset club ahead in the first half.

Marcus Tavernier and Hamed Traore both threatened for Bournemouth, and Ilya Zabarnyi, linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, rattled the crossbar with a header as West Ham survived an early onslaught.

El Hadji Malick Diouf, the Hammers’ new left wing-back, delivered a delicious delivery on 24 minutes which Bowen mishit, before Fullkrurg gobbled up the rebound to put Potter’s side into an unlikely lead.

Bowen doubled the advantage in the second half, with 67 minutes on the watch. Diouf again was the creator, carving out another stellar cross for the Irons’ skipper to redirect back across goal and into the corner.

Two wins from three Stateside for Potter. Positive, but more work needs to be done in the transfer market if they are to go into the new season with any kind of momentum.

West Ham consider move for Stoke City player – Hammers transfer on agenda

Stoke City goalkeeper Viktor Johansson is on West Ham United’s radar.

That’s according to Sportbladet, and they report West Ham are considering signing the 26-year-old.

The stopper left Rotherham United for Stoke City last summer and impressed in his debut season, keeping 15 clean sheets and conceding 64 goals from 49 games.

Graham Potter is said to be looking to improve West Ham’s goalkeeping position, and his club have Johansson on their list.

The Sweden international was earlier linked to Bournemouth and Como, likely before the Cherries signed Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea in this window.

According to the report, Stoke City have rejected all approaches for the goalkeeper so far.

The Swede’s contract expires in 2027 and Transfermarkt value him at €8m. Stoke City are likely to demand more than that if West Ham decide to seriously pursue a move for him.

On Sunday, Tuttosport reported Parma have rejected the Premier League club’s approach for Zion Suzuki. West Ham are also said to be working on a deal for Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor.

Bournemouth could let veteran go for nothing – West Ham transfer can see Cherries exit

Bournemouth appear ready to let goalkeeper Neto leave for free, as the Brazilian edges closer to a move back home in case John completes his transfer to West Ham.

According to Globo Esporte, Botafogo are in advanced talks to sign the 35-year-old on a two-year deal, with an option for a third.

The idea is simple: if John goes, Neto flies in. And with a new offer from West Ham now on the table, combined with the goalkeeper’s desire to join the London side, as previously reported, the dominoes could start falling soon.

Neto would need to terminate his contract with Bournemouth to make the deal happen, but that’s reportedly not seen as a problem. Multiple sources in Brazil are claiming the Premier League side are not expected to stand in his way.

After selling Mohammed Kudus, West Ham is looking to strengthen its squad. The London club is reportedly interested in a Ukrainian international from Shakhtar Donetsk.

While the Irons are looking for a replacement for Kudus, West Ham United is targeting Georgiy Sudakov, who plays for Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine. The player's value, according to his club, is estimated at around €50 million. Preliminary talks are underway between the two clubs. If the transfer goes through, he could become the third Ukrainian to move to East London, after Serhii Rebrov and Andriy Yarmolenko.
Georgiy Sudakov has considerable experience for a player of only 22 years old.

Georgiy Sudakov, 22, has made 142 appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk since making his senior debut five years ago, racking up 35 goals and 24 assists. Andy Jones of The Athletic describes him as a "technically gifted... versatile midfielder," adding that he is one of the "most exciting prospects" and "brightest young talents" that Eastern Europe has to offer.
