Tsutomu Yamaguchi (山口 彊, Yamaguchi Tsutomu) (16 March 1916 – 4 January 2010) was a Japanese marine engineer who survived both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings during World War II. Although at least 160 people are known to have been affected by both bombings,[sup][1][/sup] he is the only person to have been officially recognized by the government of Japan as surviving both explosions

Bloke survived the Hiroshima bomb, then went to Nagasaki to recuperate and survived that one.... Extraordinary

Great documentary on BBC iPlayer, Atomic People. I was fairly ignorant of the details of what happened on the ground and that there are survivors walking around today. This is well worth a watch.

It is a really good doc. There was a good one about the Kamikaze pilots the other week too. Crazy stuff

Went there during the World Cup in 2002. It's a genuinely moving place - the dome building that survived is quite haunting. The museum is brilliant too.
