Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

That was my main concern with him.  How much they wanted.  It would make him something like the 3rd most expensive goalkeeper from that league.

I'm glad we walked away if that's the case.

Just seen someone saying they wanted more for Mads than we thought he was worth... Maybe we just didn't want to overpay like we did for Killman, decided our limit and walked away and moved on to the next target...

We weren't. AFAIK the original message was to get a new number 1 keeper to replace him when the talk was about the Leicester or Parma lads, but that story changed coincidentally the exact same time it emerged this guy was in talks as 'competition' for Areola, not as a number 1. The old classic of adjusting expectations down when Sullivan sniffs out a 'bargain' wrapped in a brown envelope.

Hopefully he turns out to be ok and not a stupid waste of money or no better than what we've got, but it's the manner in which this has seemingly all gone down which is what's rotten. Just like the Wilson deal. As long as everyone gets their fees they'll be happy even if the bloke turns out to be an utter clown the manager is just stuck with, alongside a pissed off Areola.

This is another contradiction surely as we wouldn't pay £20 million plus and tell them they were behind Areola, no logic to that all..

It almost sounds like you're supporting the way we're run under Sullivan, fraser.
Yeah I suppose it does sound that way but I'm not. I'm just saying I'm not convinced ex is trustworthy... One thing he's said contradicting the other... Let's face it we're only annoyed because the other two targets were announced by ex... It was ex that said they were the main two targets... But no if it is the case that he's been forced on Potter I don't like it...

Though doesn't change the fact that I think he'll be decent, his team won everything and apparently he carried them a lot. He also got motm against PSG and kept a clean sheet.

Martinez and Fabianski who are both excellent keepers had both played less first team games at the same age too, so not impossible he's a late bloomer.

But yeah this is us and he could be Roberto MK 2 both things are possible.
I'm not really annoyed over this transfer.  I have question marks over it, like I would do with the other 2 targets we were supposedly in for.

The main thing that annoys me, is that we still haven't got players in for the 2 positions that we were all crying out for.  A central midfielder and a striker.  I'm pretty sure we'll get them, but just like this keeper, it's all too last minute.
West Ham are just annoying aren't we... I'm getting less annoyed all the time though, can't be arsed with it, but yeah I agree on all of that.

I can't see us getting another striker, we're desperate for a midfielder with proper athleticism but we have been for ages.

Maybe then Potter was offered this bloke and they liked him, as I said he refused Cooper if we're believing ex on this we have to believe him on that and if he refused one why not both?

Either way if he signs it doesn't fucking matter and I'll just hope he's decent and I won't judge him till I see him.

I really hate supporting West ham.  And again it's the fault of our chairman.  What is the point of hiring a manager and him bringing his mate in to scout talent that the manager wants when our tinpot porn dwarf dictator spank bubble of a chairman just goes and does whatever he wants.  Seriously he's supposed to be a business man.  Buy cheap, waste money. cսnt

Fuck me. £1.2m! And no doubt we'll soon be paying him off when Potter gets sacked and the whole merry go round starts again.
We may have paid similar to that as a signing on fee for Callum Wilson.

A striker that was equal to me and my nan (RIP) on Premier League goals scored last season.

A typical Moyes signing - a midfielder who runs about quite a lot but doesn't actually create or know how to consistently anticipate the ball from deep.

Perfick!

The thing with Macauley is he's not ambitious like Steidten and doesn't pretend to be a "pearl diver". I get the impression he's basically a middle management type who doesn't bring much to the table himself but helps the more important team members get on with their job. Every time he's followed Potter into a job it's been to act as a "conduit" between the manager and other departments (namely scouting/recruitment and the board).

This is what Potter said when Macauley joined us:

“Kyle is in. He has been part of my staff for however many years, (since) I’ve been coaching since Sweden, so I know him well and he knows me well.

“It’s a good link between the coach and the club in terms of recruitment, in terms of the hours and depths of conversations that you have to have around recruitment. It’s easier to have with Kyle than it is for me, because clearly I’m on the pitch and I’m working with the 20 odd players that we’ve got here.

“So I’m really happy with that appointment, something that was always going to happen, it was just a case of when. I’m obviously delighted he’s here.

“He’s Head of Recruitment, to provide a link between myself, the coach, and the club, to make the best decisions we can. Recruitment is about having lots of conversations and lots of work to make the right decision.

“The reality of it is Head Coaches in the Premier League these days, time to spend on that in a global market is nearly impossible, so having someone like Kyle to help in that regard is going to be great for us and great for me.”

I dont understand why the other board members are sat on their hands, especially any of them that might want to sell  in the next couple of years. As relegation does feel a possibility, as it stands that first 11 is weaker than last season and any sort of mid to long term injury to Bowen will cripple us

He's got the most pointless job in the world. He's still doing all the work. I wonder how long it might be until he just thinks 'fuck it' and starts Avram Grant-ing in his office because he might as well be if everything he does is going to be chucked in the bin.

Sir Alf" wrote: 05 Aug 2025, 10:31 This is Sullivan’s revenge. He was againat a DOF so only gave Steidten limited recruitment power. He believes and always has, ( megalomania ) that he is the best at identifying and recruiting players. He said as much after Hussilos and Pellegrini ( who he of course appointed) and set up Steidten for last summer despite 6 of the 9 signings being his ( 3 via his insistence on Lopetegui).  He has become convinced of his superiority and emboldened after gettimg one right with AWB via Salthouse

Sofar Potter and Macaulay have got one of the players they identified, Diouf.   He wants to e spend as little as possible this summer and allegedly believes Potters other picks are too expensive. Hence Wilson, KWP and what now looks like this Victor GK. i fully expect Brownhill next. Look back the last 15 years and Sullivan still using the agent mate model and 3 agents dominate: Salthouse, Silkman and Mackay.

Potter really cannot be blamed if we see no improvement or problems at the bottom of the table again this season Imo.  Sullivan has meddled and undermined him.

If things dont go well ( which is highly likely imo ) you will see rumours and stories that make it all Potters fault.

The above script is yet another part of “The Sullivan effect”.

Yup, same thing we've seen a million times before. little leaks going against Potter and Macauley, anything to undermine them, what they are doing and any of their own players they may actually be able to bring in.

If Potter goes, another unemployed cheap manager will come in, only be given a portion of what they ask for in terms of players while being lumped with another load of brown paper bag specials and expected to make a proper team out of it. I'm starting to understand why Moyes never wanted to buy anyone. At least he wouldn't be saddled with a load of Sullivan shit. As has been mentioned this will be 75% Sullivan signings vs 25% what the manager actually needs and wants this summer, if this keeper joins. No faith any of them aside from KWP are actually being brought in for the right reasons and NONE of them are going to have improved the team in the slightest. Surprise surprise the only one that will have is the one Potter wanted.

I just don't understand an owner acting this way and willfully damaging their own multi million investment all for the sake of cosying up to their mates and possibly allegedly a little earner on the side out of it. It just makes no sense. He has to be in the hole to someone to be acting this way. He cannot think this is the best way to have the team succeed on the pitch, by acting in favour of his agent mates over his football club.
