Involved in 11 of our goals (almost a quarter of all our goals scored in the League) in games he started and was the 1st important goalscorer in 5 of those wins and 2 draws. I can think of a lot worse contributors in the side than him starting or not.

Oh I does matter because our midfield is even more dysfunctional when he starts, so he may start and have to pop up with a last minute equaliser, but you could argue if he didn't we may not have needed the last minute equaliser...

Doesn't matter if he starts or not, he's often involved in our goals as last season proved when he started.

We could well be in the position of losing Paqueta & Alvarez. I hope they have replacements lined up and are not thinking JWP & Potts are the answer.
Alvarez should be kept and played in the hole infront of the back 3 to break up play and stop teams strolling through our midfield IMHO, that's his game.
Paqueta is a bit of an enigma just not consistent enough but let's see how he does when the real action starts now the ban is not hanging over his head.
I like Soucek, he gives us a presence at both ends of the pitch & we look better when he is on the pitch.
There is a player somewhere in Rodriguez but he's another one who hasn't shown it yet.
If Potter doesn't address the midfield & insists on starting JWP every game  we will struggle again next season.
So much deadwood still to shift, WTF are Cornet & Emerson still doing at the club if they clearly have no future?
Where was Guilherme?
Bowen & Fulkrug are developing as a partnership but why wasn't Wilson on the bench, idiotic.

Playing out from the back is boring, we can't do it and it's already becoming outdated.
The most successful sides last season don't do it.
Potter is yesterday's man.

Club is a fucking circus.
Rant over.

If we lose Paqueta there's literally not a single creative player in the squad. We'd be fucking dead. Starts every single game for me. Fuck knows why Alvarez hasn't played, by all accounts (didn't see any of it) was fantastic in the dago Cup and we're nowhere near solving the massive midfield problems. Absolute incompetence that we've left this most important position as our lowest priority and are heading into the season with the worst midfield in the league from last season. Cunts. Fuck off Potter, you wet cardboard personified, insipid, fucking possession for possession's sake boring sideways passing gutless wanker football peddling no mark, personality void, out of your fucking depth, rabbit in the headlights fucking useless waste of spunk from the cock of a beige tramp from beige city, Hapless County, Cuntsville. And take your silly fucking mate with you, the cսnt is nicking a living.
Potter doesn’t think it’s an urgent issue cos for some unknown reason he sees something in Ward-Prowse that the rest of the footballing world can’t see

Off to Sunderland next week looking forward to some suitably massive away support but travelling more in hope than expectation. irons!
True. Don’t mean to burst bubbles. But every side has good team spirit before the season starts.

It’s meaningless at this stage. As you say, what counts is the team spirit into the season, when you’ve put in a few awful performances. Hopefully, it will strengthen then.

Well that ought to have adjusted expectations for the season. Yes it's 'only' a friendly but this ought to be us up to fitness and well drilled at this point. Utterly apalling first half from Potter's starting lineup, clueless with the ball, absolutely shat themselves whenever pressed, dogshit. Created nothing. Gave the ball away endlessly. Second half was slightly less dismal but not by much, we dont create much, anyone that runs at us gets a free 40-50 yards if freedom and is at the edge if our box. Pathetic subs, to give us the slowest midfield three in sports history in Soucek, Rodriguez and JWP. What's even the point of bringing on Rodriguez? He has no future at the club, but Guilherme and Alvarez rot on the bench. How has Alvarez not got a single minute of pre-season? What the fuck is this geography teacher cսnt Potter fucking thinking about? Gaping midfield hole still not addressed, JWP too slow, Potts out if his depth, Paqueta just losing possession time after time. What the fuck is Potter doing? cսnt is hopeless.

Dismal fucking stuff, we are very much in for a long shit season. Potter gone by Christmas looks really possible. Fucking clueless.

With what we have at the club currently Soucek should be starting. Also think Rodriguez should start at the moment.
JWP & Potts both don't do enough for me and lack presence.
Alvarez must be off, not sure why as he's the other one I would start.
Potter is getting on my nerves.

Yep our first trophy of the season 😂. Ag ag ag.

Sort that central midfield and we should see a big improvement. We simply cannot progress the ball beyond the first 3rd of the pitch via possession / passing.  It could be in part the formation but mostly down to not having a couple of players with the ability to turn, run with real pace and give the movement to create it.  The contrast with Lille could not have been clearer. They were always moving and able to beat our attempt at a press several times.

At a minimum, JWP has to be replaced in there but on today’s showing Paqueta was worse. Recruitment has to be right. We cannot afford to get this one wrong again.  A player with a profile like Gibbs White would be perfect and although I hear fernandes being touted by many I cant say I have seen enough of him to know if he fits the bill?

I still fear Sully already has Josh Brownhill in the bag and waiting until the last week of the window to reveal him
