Agreed! Still achieved it nevertheless having played most positions on the park during his time with us - Before we get on to his other team ethic like assists as well.

He was one of the funner (and frusterating) players to watch in the last decade.


He had lots of problems, and would not have been with us if didn't, but made some absolutely West Ham moments as well:  the Spurs away goal early, the bicycle kick against Man City, his complete bullying of people in Europe.

I think he is/was like CFC. With no time to think and just act on instinct, then largely fine. With time to think, it'll end up in row Z.
Very much a feast or famine player- runs where he scored plenty followed by long dry spells.

It's a shame it ended with that car crash, but at least he's ok and it's saved us inevitably extending his contract as I am sure we would have done. One of the more successful Sullivan specials. it has to be said.

When he was at his best, around the Covid seasons, he was unplayable. Pretty much no-one could out-muscle him or knock him off the ball.  


 

I wonder if the lack of fans was a factor in why he was better then?

This stage fright thing he has in front goal is probably made all the worse with 60,000 people watching it. I can't remember the game but I remember him having one of his one-on-one moments with the keeper and fluffing it as he usually does and the stadium was filled with the sound of laughter as the fans are so used it. That must affect him.

Maybe, but if stage fright is a problem, Premier League football isn't for him!

I remember going to Ipswich away in a pre-season and seeing him through 1-on-1 with the keeper and he sliced it pretty high and wide, may have even gone out for a corner!  It did make me laugh to be honest.

His time at the club has been mutually beneficial and he must have pocketed minimally £15M over his time with us. For this reason I would not describe him as a servant. He joins a list of players good enough to be a regular starter, over a prolonged period, whilst never being the best player in a starting eleven. More a Collins/Creswwell type than a Bowen so to speak.

I’m with Eerie and Trundle here. 

He doesn’t have a management bone in his body, comes across thick as pig shit.

I’m delighted we don’t have to watch him lumber about anymore.

I don’t see him as someone I feel there is a need to keep around the club. What’s his credentials? Dopey fucker who wrote two cars off driving, presumably, like an entitled billy big bollocks wanker? Slagging off his teammates on a podcast with our new, equally bellendish, centre forward? I certainly don’t see him as a proper West Ham man. 

Fair play on climbing through the divisions, but I would have thought that would have meant he wouldn’t get all uppity about being asked to play right back in his breakthrough season. Especially when it largely worked. 

A utility man really, who, had it not been for Moyes’ reluctance to buy, trust or play a proper centre forward resulting in that short purple patch would have been long gone some time ago I suspect.

Massive respect to him for carving out a decent PL career with his limited ability. Has been a great servant to West Ham.

I think it must have been those goals he scored to fuck up their League Title chase at Upton Park and the 1st goal scored to win at his poxy new Stadium that still makes him so bitter towards him. Understandable to be honest.

He's been a good servant for the club and scored some important goals. 

When he was at his best, around the Covid seasons, he was unplayable. Pretty much no-one could out-muscle him or knock him off the ball.  He was such a strong player and that made him a big player for us.

But for some reason either he's become weaker in the last few seasons or he's decided that he's going to play for free-kicks by throwing himself to the ground for weaker challenges that he would easily brushed off in previous years.  Which is a real shame.

It's also a little embarrassing that he's been able to become our all time top Premier League goalscorer on 68 goals in 10 seasons, having never scored more than 10 in a season, averaging just under 7 per season.  

Jarrod Bowen can (and probably will) overtake him next season with 13 goals.

He's a character for sure. I think the apparent ego masks the real him. Cant deny he has been amazing for us but really last two seasons he has been poor even before the crash. He was at his best when he could run, take on players and jump for headers. He is just an Akinfenwa now relying on strength. I hope he does get some recognition from the club. I also hope Bowen smashes his most WHU premier league goals record.

Antonio was superb for us, however, as some have said the time is right to release him
