Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

We are lucky, weirdly. To an extent while it's frustrating we probably should be more successful or at least consistently better due to our size and stature as a club, it's probably the one things that's saved us from being sucked down like other clubs into championship purgatory, despite being run very poorly for the last couple of decades where decisions from ownership probably should have got us into more difficulties. We've survived firstly a little in spite of that and secondly that they've always found the money conveniently round the back of the sofa when it's really needed to do the bare minimum to keep us clinging on, while at the same time, every time failing to capitalise on any sorts of short term success we've had.

The frustration is what the club could achieve under forward thinking and progressive leadership. When you look at the consistency clubs like Brighton have shown, we should be better than that with our resources. When you look that the likes of Palace, Leicester, Wigan have won the cup. We should be consistently going a lot further in those competitions and we should be in a position each season where a cup run is a great bonus when we are comfortable in the league and not a tricky distraction when we are needing to pick up points in the league to be sure of survival and not prioritising a cup.

Pfffft anyway TL:DR the owners are shit- again.

Looking after agent-mates' & safely managing brown envelopes appear to tend to modify such preferences among those who sign the cheques for the club.

At least he runs with the ball.

Does he? He is so flat-footed, I wouldn't exactly call him dynamic.
He's the sort of player who would've been very dynamic in 1993 when the Premier League began which is the very year our diminutive chairman bought into football and his knowledge of the game has stubbornly remained in that particular decade without any hope of evolution...

I'll give it maybe 30 mins for Alvarez to have been on the pitch for us again (assuming he is on the pitch for us again) until the first people start calling him shit and useless.

At least he runs with after the ball before typically giving away a foul and receives a booking that leads to yet another lengthy suspension.

Don't forget we still have the option of getting 2 loan signings.
Don’t tell Sullivan FFS. Well end up with Ronaldinho and the corpse of Toto Schillachi.
Potter, Sullivan, the scouts and analysts will hopefully study the best squads in the Premier league and in Germany, Spain and Italy to find out which players will become available for loan at the end of the transfer window. This done properly might make us capable of a top half finish, even European qualification.
I trust all of them will aside from Sullivan. Who will Allegedly study the contents of envelopes from his friends.

Im beginning to think JWP will be the “cross Potter will die on” if he insists on selecting him ahead of Alvarez and others?

Alvarez just being ignored so assume he is the one they want to get money for?  I might be ok with it if it allows 2 players with pace, athleticism and power to come in.  Will we get it right?  History and Sullivan suggest unlikely?

I always think players from the Championship around 23 who have had approx 100 games over say 3 seasons in a physical league are able to be judged
As said the likes of Bowen & Cresswell were ready to go and obviously don’t need to learn the language or settle
Those players obviously are hungry for success too.

One of the benefits of getting Championship players in is that if they don't work out then it's much easier to offload them, eg Downes. When we buy from bigger clubs we tend to either sell at a big loss or can't get rid at all because their wages are too high.
