Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

Window this close season comes in two parts:

We need 2 central midfielders not one so Fernandes and this geezer would be great. Mukau is more of a Kante type player with defensive instincts so complements Fernandes well since he is more attack minded. Both of them are a lot quicker than we have and pass accurately, press well, track back etc. according to scouting data?

Sullivan is still the concern though especially with Josh Brownhill available for free and both he and Jacob Ramsay being on Salthouse's books.  I personally am not so keen as many on Ramsay as he seems better suited to, and has mostly played in, a wide role?

Anyway, leaving it this late to get the weakest area of the team sorted is so typical of West Ham and our little wannabe depot owner.
Agree, adding Fernandes and Makua to the squad in this window would actually elevate this window to quietly brilliant. Getting Gueye from Metz would make it more overtly brilliant. Seems funny to say that now after what has been another window where, so far, main weaknesses (striker and box to box midfielder) have not been resolved.

My concern in that we aren't dynamic enough in the transfer market and so both will drag on and on right to the death and both clubs will end up not selling as they can't replace. Soton has valued Fernandes at £30m, Lille have valued Makua at £17m and Lille have valued Gueye at £14m. So its a large pay out of £61m if you go for all three.

We haven't got the money from I understand. So there will be alot of haggling. But for £60m, look what you get. Do we sell Paqueta and use that money?

Like others I wondered if JWP might be a makeweight in a deal for Fernandes but perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that he’s very much part of Potter’s plans since Potter values above all else character, teamwork, team spirit, the group’, good lads getting along together. That’s the culture he builds- Bowen’s been used to brief the press about how cohesive and happy everyone is. Füllkrug is on board with this too now. I must admit I like it. Potter seems an affable chap and he’s putting together a likeable team. The only problem is if we get turned over in the first two games it probably all evaporates. Here’s hoping nice guys win. I’d probably prefer playing for Potter than a miserable demanding aggressive bastard like Alex Ferguson but if you want to win things….

Destructive, Desperate, Disgusting we're spoilt for choice in describing our toxic Owner. ☢️
Lopetegui was his pick and the bloke considered himself such a genius he thought he only needed players with technical ability but zero pace and capacity to cover ground quickly in the Prem.

From one narcissist to another they made a right pig's ear of last summer and now we've fucked for a good few years more because of it.

Lopetegui has always been a strange fucking fish - his father was a champion weightlifter which is pretty narcissistic in itself. As for our diminutive chairman - well, we all know that story also writes itself.

This is no way to run a football club.

I still get a feeling there's a bit of emperors new clothes with Potter.

It's almost like the last half of the previous season has completely been forgotten about and everything is going brilliantly.

We still have exactly the same useless defence and midfield that were so poor last season.

I should think Potter gets one of his choice and then a Sullivan choice or Brownhill to make do with

I saw that too. We went cheap in CM and paid the price. Although to be fair I will say we should have seen a bit better from those players we had
Wasn't cheap though, loan fees, signing on fee and massive wages for Soler and Guido probably came to more.

Good point. Not even cheap. Very short sighted though. Pretty glad they were short deals, but deals that just set the team back,.
A complete fuck up by Loppy. I still can’t believe how inept that guy was in thinking those two players were what our midfield needed. We’ve made some shit signings over the years but I’d put these two pretty high that last in terms of exactly not what we needed this time last year.

West Ham are preparing an opening bid for Southampton midfielder Mateus Fernandes, according to The Guardian.

It is claimed the Hammers have made the 21-year-old their top target after assessing several midfielders, including Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey and Lille’s Ngal’ayel Mukau.

The report says the Portugal U21 international would cost about £30m with the Premier League club optimistic a deal can be struck with the Championship side.

West Ham boss Graham Potter is reportedly looking to add energy and creativity in midfield.

Yup there is no excuse for not acting on this position until a week before the start of the season. Feels like Sullivan has just waited and waited to see if anyone else bids for any of our targets (Fernandes, Hermansen) before the low offer goes in. I get it in that you'll get it for a few mill less as there's no competition, probably and you avoid paying wages all summer as well, but the player won't be properly integrated into the team or up to speed with their teammates at all, and what if someone else swoops in and nicks him? We'd be in all sorts.

Anyyway if the plan all along was to get him and we end up getting him for a decent price then ok, but it just seems frugality at the cost of performance at least the first few weeks of the season while the player gets to grips with things and the rest of the squad get used to them. Meanwhile Potter's had to do all of preseason without key parts of what he wants.

If we could weasel JWP into a Fernandes deal that would be ideal
If JWP was a small fee I guess we’d have to give it to him as Southampton can’t afford his wages
Gets them off our books going forward though

We need 3 midfielders… wouldn’t mind Fernandes (or El Khannous) , Mukau & one with some pace & physicality (ie a Soucek who can move & ideally pass)
As mentioned many times the problem is getting shot of the likes of JWP & Rodriquez

Those would transform us from bottom 6 to top half
