Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

You moaned about KWP on a free transfer ffs
No I didn't. I actually posted about signing him along with the other English targets, as being a preferable recruitment policy for the club.

You moaned about the keeper, who was touted at £25mil, we got him for £15mil, Leicester fans rave about him.
I was against paying 25m for him and pointed out his stats last season didn't prove him to be the MASSIVE UPGRADE you claimed.

You moaned about signing a left back first, who looks mustard btw
No I pointed out the fact we spent half the Kudus money on a position we already had two players for, as not being priority.

You're moaning about signing a lad that looks mustard for £35mil
I've just givien you the context in which you've completely ignored.

I was critical of the Kilman signing at the time, thought it was utter madness, mainly because the Wolves fans, to a man, were saying he was pony. I take note of stuff like that. I think the Callum Wilson signing is a shocker, for the same reasons everyone else does.

Signing a 21 year old who's just won his club's POTY in the Prem by a landslide, who is properly highly rated by those who have watched him regularly, for £35mil seems like decent business.

Slagging off EVERY single signing the club makes is easy work, which is exactly what you're doing. You can come back crowing about it if he's shit, keep schtum if he's quality and no one will mention it. Some of us are just trying to look at each signing on its merits.

Supporting this club is hard enough at the minute, I'm trying to at least stay a bit positive. I called this manager out when he went to Chelsea, never wanted him here, and I fucking hate our owners. But that doesn't mean I'm going to be a minge about absolutely everything, but fair play, you're sticking to your guns. Let's hope you're wrong about every single view you have, for the sake of West Ham, yeah?

That was a lot of words to simply say 'I'm trying to at least stay a bit positive'  Where as I'm simply being realistic. It's the same cycle as ever other pre season, people share an opinion that isn't blind optimism and you accuse them  of being against EVERYTHING, like a wounded child. 🙄

You're not being realistic, youre moaning about absolutely everything. Like a wounded child, ironically.

I'm a million miles from blind optimism, I'm trying to be objective about each signing.

All fair enough though, I hope you enjoy the season more than you're anticipating. I hope the same for myself.
I haven't moaned about everything though. That's just a cunty deflection from  any point I've raised.  Here you are talking up spending 35m+ on a player that only last season was 15m, like criticism is beyond rational. That's the same amount we paid for Kudus and Paqueta, who were both internationals playing European football.

If you think he is better than both those players as investments I'm struggling to see why, but I don't believe for a second you do. You've just got trappy about him for the sake of being supportive,

If money was no object to the club it wouldn't bother me. Seeing as we are on a tight budget, and they are asking for the same amount as what we sold Kudus for, I'm not seeing this potential transfer as within our means or good business.

No I just see it as bad business. The same as when I pointed out 27m on Aguerd who went for 4m 2 years before was bad business. And spending 45m on Kilman was terrible business.

You know, the sort of thing you end up being critical of eventually.

We've done it to ourselves again. The business genius of Sully.

However, nobody ever accepts the first offer on the table, remember how outraged we were when the skullcaps offered a paltry 50m for Kudus followed by the complete capitulation only days later for a few pennies more? It's a negotiation. Southampton don't think they're getting 50m any more than we thought we were getting 85m for Kudus. However they're not quite as desperate or pathetic as Sully so we won't be getting a bargain.

What I want to know is when is McCauley going to start earning his fucking money with his data (yawn) because it looks like he does most of his scouting on Match Of The Day and Sky Sports News. Where are the gems you cսnt?
Assuming he and Potter are still in a job, the gems would likely come a little further down the line. Such is the state of the squad we’re having to pay decent sized amounts on established players to hopefully make an impact immediately. Caught in Sullivan’s interminable wheel of short sightedness. Best hope is they make a decent fist of it this season, ship out more of the deadwood and start getting in a few of these young players to start as squad members not required to drop right in and make an impact. We are so far behind we’ve got a lot to do to catch up with most other functional teams. We don’t even have a fully formed first XI, let alone squad.
You could be right but Potter's decisions are not really helping his cause if longevity is his aim. Got one consistently high performing player, yeah let's play him out of position! Got fifty odd million wrapped up in two other wingers too - but let's not play with any wingers. Midfield was awful all last season - let's wait until four days before the start of the season to bid on a midfielder! We're terribly slow and injury prone up top - let's not prioritise a striker and then bring a really washed up one in eventually! It's been fucking mental behaviour.
I hear you about (presumably) Bowen and/or Paqueta. He could play to his strengths a bit more also in terms of wide players. It's worth remembering though he inherited all those wingers rather than bought them plus the geezer he played successfully at RWB in his first game hasn't been seen since.

I really find it hard to blame him for us not buying a midfielder yet and also for Wilson. That's all on Sullivan and his mental behaviour. I am sure the club were relying on selling a few midfielders a lot quicker than we have- or indeed at all. But there is no way in hell Potter would have said if asked 'Yeah it's fine, just wait until the last week and then we'll move- I don't need to get the guy in in time to acclimatise and have preseason with the rest of them. Just get him in for the morning of the Sunderland match' No way. It'll be all Sullivan holding off as usual to do business as late as possible for whatever stupid reasons. You can't do much if the bloke who has to write the cheques isn't getting his chequebook out. Plus there's no way if told he can have one striker he goes 'Callum Wilson please.'

We should be more like Palace and find players in the £20m bracket. Surely this is why we are paying Macauley the big bucks? We’ve had our fingers burnt far too often paying over the odds for players. Sure, Fernandes might go on to be a £70m player, but right now he is £25-30m.

I agree with a lot of what Geo says, and I'm about to sit down and watch his video.  So I'd be interested in what he says.

£15m was the market value for Hermansen (according to those sites again), so good value, I can only see his price going up.

We were quoted £25mil for the keeper, got him for £15mil

We ain't paying anything like £50mil for him, but anything around £35mil would seem like good business, given how highly he's rated by those that have watched a lot of him, including the Scots lad on Hammerschat.

No one on here saying he's not worth that, have watched him nearly enough to say he isn't worth it. It's just being negative for the sake of it.

Not worth tuppence on WHO
If that's aimed at me, I'm only going the sites that value players for a living.

I can't find any that value him anywhere near as much as you and the rest of the Saints fans do.

Wasn't aimed at anyone in general.

I've no idea what he's worth, I haven't watched him enough. You seen him a fair bit?

No, which is why I can only go on what those sites suggest he's worth.  FWIW I hope we sign do him, just not for anything near what they want for him.  I want the manager/proper recruiting team to get the players they identify.

Given the prices chucked around, I wouldn't mind us going for that bloke from Lille based on what I saw from him at the weekend and the kind of players they can produce there.

Watching highlights from Reitz and Mukau shows they can both operate as defensive midfielders and box to box. Sign them the fuck up!

Not even sure Fernandes is proven yet in the Premier League after just 1 season where they were all mostly dogshit including himself failing to make a real mark.
