Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

Irving is a strange one. I like him,  he's decent and I'm  surprised championship clubs haven't been sniffing around. 3.5m is a steal. Think of some of the dogshit west ham brought in over the years for 6,7,8 times that amount.

Celtic offered a couple of million then upped it to £3m or £3.5m

Full Scottish international… is that the price these days?

The fact he was injured for Saturday pretty much sums it up, but if he plays and we create chances, he'll score.

Is he injured already?? 🤣
Certainly he cannot be match fit, or he'd have been on the bench. I have a feeling Potter is going to do a Moyes with him and just not use him unless he's simply got no-one else. It also wouldn't completely surprise me if Sullivan actually asks/asked Potter to use Wilson as little as possible as well given the money it'll cost. That sort of insanity is what comes to mind when you consider how this club is run and what's happened in the past with players who have clauses based on financials in their contracts. Get a guy in who no-one wanted in the first place and then ask the manager not to play him.

He started 2 games last season.
And those two were away to Liverpool and Arsenal. He did also start one FA cup game vs Birmingham, which he scored in. Bit harsh to judge him based on what amounted to just 5 full games, spread out over 22. Half of them 22 games either only had a few minutes left to run or were already over as a competition with either side being 3+ goals up.

As for his age, Defoe and Vardy both had 15 goal seasons twice in a row at 33 & 34 years of age, not playing for top clubs.

All that said, it seems so unlikely that he'll be available much because of his injury record that you know it's going to make the manager's job more difficult. Even if he starts a few games and does well it'll probably mean that Fullkrug loses his place, which won't help his form and confidence when he has to step in again come injury time (and that's if he's fit himself, which isn't a given). It wouldn't be a surprise at all to see both strikers spend most of the season in the physio room or catching up with fitness. We might have been better off with a less prolific scorer who can at least be relied upon to likely be available.

I would find it funny if Wilson is injured for the first proper game of the season.

Like, no one saw that one coming.

His last pay day. Knows that with lack of competition there is a hi likelihood he will be relied upon this season. Probably be the fittest he has ever been and will chip in with a few goals but that is as good as it gets.

Hoping Fullkrug can stay fit as feel as he may have a big season for us. We need him to or we are fucked.
No point playing Fullkrug without someone alongside him.

Well, cheaper short term with no up front fee and if he doesn't ever get on the pitch but apparently an absolute money drain if he does, whether he does or does not score. A very short sighted transfer when what we are spunking on prospective wage bonuses/structure could absolutely have gone toward a young striker with a fee, but far lower wages, far more promise and far more positive long tern benefit for us.

This was a ridiculous transfer for a club like ours to take. The only winners are probably Sullivan and Salthouse, and Wilson IF he gets on the pitch. If he does, I don't expect much impact at all and more than 5 goals, if that and at the end of the season, a squad place and a bunch of money down the toilet which could have been far better spent. I hope Potter just has him riding the bench unless it's an emergency. Would rather see Marshall as first backup for Fullkrug. At least there's more benefit to us in giving him experience.

The cսnt's got the number nine shirt as well. I know it's fairly meaningless at the end of the day but it just boils my piss that little bit more.

Was that ever confirmed by the club?  I did wonder if he was already injured considering he was nowhere to be seen in either of the games.

I don't think anyone is questioning Wilson's goal-scoring ability.

But West Ham do not get on well with injury-prone players, especially at 33 years old when the desire and ability to recover quickly probably isn't the same as it is when you are 23.

It's all well and good saying: "If he's fit...." but it's the "IF" that make this deal so questionable.  In that it's so fucking big.

He started 2 games last season.

2022-2023 he got 18.

I'd rather we got someone young not at the end of their career, but he does know how to put away chances, we created some great chances on Saturday in the first half, that were made for him.

Man City had a 20% sell on clause for Lavia when they sold him to Southampton so maybe he would have gone for less otherwise. I don't think Sporting had that kind of clause with Fernandes.

I can't see us weighing out anything north of £40mil including unrealistic add-ons. Anything up to that feels like we'll get an excellent player, given what we've read and the snippets seen of him.

Feels like we won't get this one done, sadly, but fingers crossed.
