In the past he's favoured a 3-4-3 formation...hard to see how we can do that currently with only 3 senior CBs, one of whom is injured. He's also played wingers (Solly March as an example) in the wing back roles.

Typically when a 3-4-3 gets announced on a match day the manager is immediately described as being too negative, too cautious etc. I guess it depends on the composition of the 4.

He's given young players chances...hopefully that continues at West Ham.

Welcome Graham.

That's what I feel as well Jean. We certainly had some good times with Moyes. Maybe Potter can do something similar, or even a bit better. I certainly support him having a go and want a good start today and a good season.
Our recent history is lurching between possession attacking managers and defensive counter attacking managers, as many have said the problem is the people that appoint the managers...

I think that for a lot of his critics it feels like Moyes is back already. Main difference between them is that under Moyes we were very passive when we didn't have the ball. Under Potter we're passive even when we do have the ball. It's actually even more dull to watch. Perhaps he'll try something different this season. We can only hope.

He will never be accepted by some West Ham fans but let me tell those that constantly criticise him -

David Moyes is not coming back.

What are the chances he'll get it right tomorrow? None. We're likely to get turned over by Sunderland and it's on that fucking prick. Prioritised a goalkeeper above midfield and striker for fucks sake. What a dickhead.

How about a counter argument if you don't agree with my criticism of the great and renowned winner Graham Potter? I guess it's much easier to be a slightly camp, fence sitting, drive-by pathetic comment dispenser innit? Fucking non entity.

Yep!
It's this all day and all night long

Two young players in their early 20's with energy and tenacity that are comfortable on the half-turn and can cover the ground quickly and toe poke the ball in the right direction to stop our defence getting stuffed like turkeys on the counter attack.

Our defence with suddenly start to look a lot better if this glaring weakness is nailed before the window closes. Potter will also start to look like a genius but at the moment he is trying to keep the lines as tight as possible with players who look like they are trying to run in the deep end of a swimming pool.

Potts looks like he can step up but it's a big ask and I would rather have him find his way gradually and compliment those two badly needed signings in centre midfield.

Otherwise it will be more of the same.

Rinse and Repeat 🙄

Not going to burn my specially printed off Sunderland ticket (what’s that all about) and my train ticket based on that Alf. Our fans are massive, Potter will get a tune out of them this year, we’ve got a big German, Bowen and Paqueta are still on our books and it’s happy days ahead. Cheer up, old son!

Iraola with a tough task tonight having lost 3 of his back 4 and keeper. If Anfield wasn’t hard enough already
Done a great job with a small club but having your team sold from under you must be depressing
Maybe ready for a bigger club if Potter shits the bed in the first 10 games

Jacob Steinberg previewing us and mainly Potter for this season.
It is obviously time Potter steps up and proves himself, because he has not shown much ability with us last season.

"Now the challenge is to prove the doubters wrong. West Ham were unsure about hiring Potter but may benefit from his calm, dignity and ability to improve players on the training ground. Patience could be key. Potter is not about instant success. He has tended to build slowly, so West Ham will need to trust him if they start slowly."

I suspect it's more a case that the game has swung back in favour of fast paced counter attacking sides, which is a style that typically suits the away team more than the home team.

Teams in the Premier League are struggling at home generally. Second worse Premier League season, for percentage of games won at home. The worse season for home wins, was in Covid, with largely no fans.
