Luizao gone
Luizao gone
Strange how we bought him at 21 then only played him as an average player in the U21s and loaned him to the jam roll team I'd never heard of.
Someone must have seen something in him to keep him around at that age, perhaps that person left or Potter was just adamant that he wasn't going to give him a registered squad place.
We might have killed his career.

Re: Luizao gone
All these Sullivan specials/punts that slip under the radar but never seem to amount to much remind me of an infamous double deal involving Terry Venables when he returned to Palace in the late 90's.
From what I remember or probably more accurately what my next door neighbour Paul who is a massive Eagles fan never lets me forget is that Venables signed two promising Argentinian footballers in a double deal for around £2million quid.
They were supposed to have U21's caps for the national side but both disappeared without trace after Venables subsequently got the sack. Somebody at the club then decided to get in contact with the Argentine FA to see if they knew who these two fellas were.
It turns out that the Argentine FA had no record whatsoever of any players matching their names or date of birth ever having represented the national side at any of their age groups up to U21 level.
Genius!

Re: Luizao gone
Caught a news story about Luizao from the right hand side of the forum screen earlier. Just more to highlight Sullivan's greed and incompetence costing the club money if it's accurate. Not loads in this case but a few million here with Luizao and a few million there with other bits and pieces and it all adds up to a part of why our finances are such a shitshow.
Corinthians wanted to take him on loan to buy last summer, paying 2.5 mill and a possible sell on clause, and Sullivan with his typical negotiating skills wanted 4.5 and refused to budge, and now he's just gone for nothing. As I said, only 'small change' but if this is how it's all managed it's easy to see how huge losses build up. It's the opposite of marginal gains all adding up to maximise performance- marginal reductions all adding up to minimise performance.

I don't remember a goalkeeper but I do remember a Half Danish, Half Brazilian centre back called Frederick Alves who arrived out of the blue as a similar bargain with enormous potential and that ended up much the same way as Luizao
